Your feedback is very motivating, and much appreciated, thanks.
@Rob (yoshi) and others that want to build and paint this figure: I was impressed by how well the two arms and gun fit together, but some filling was needed of the space between the gun and the body. I placed some magic sculpt in the indentation in the body where the gun should be and then pressed the right arm/gun combination into it to get a contact fit, without a gap between body and weapon.
For painting I left off the right arm/gun combination. After paint I fit it to the body, filled a very minor gap at his right shoulder and retouched the paint along this seam.
I advise to think about mounting of the rifle sling before attaching the right arm. I found the sling the most tricky bit actually.
@Pedro: It's indeed a rather simple base, but I had a lot of trouble with basing this figure. The base you see actually is the second one I made. The first one had much thicker, melting snow, with dry grass peeking through. I took quite some time to make it, but when finished, I didn't like the strong contrast between the white of the snow and the rather dark figure. I wanted dark wet mud, but also some snow, since the figure has a scarf and gloves. So what you see is the compromise that came out!
I'll post a picture of the first base later (please don't tell me you like that one more)
Thanks again guys!
