I think Bob has a point. Perhaps he could hold a shovel to suggest being in a mine, or perhaps stand next to a pile of ore holding a sift screen. I think one of the mining methods other than panning was mining and sifting the dirt or using water to wash it through screens to find nuggets. Just a thought.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the link but what I was planning on is having a pick and a few other things lying around. I know that it was dust but I know that on some occasions it could have happened that a nugget could be found in the rubble. :) I guess I am just kind of making it as it could have happened but not that it was the right way to go at panning. Maybe this guy came up where some of the others had been and missed the big one.

You are right, I have been watching a little to much Deadwood and the one scene from Pale Rider when the guy hits the big rock in the creek and it turns out to be gold.

Hi Joe,

I just think you have a mighty fine figure there (I was playing with an idea close to yours, but don't have the skills (yet) to sculpt it. I think you have some atistic freedom, and wether it is accurate or not, I just LOVE it. Can't wait to see it painting.

Greetz,

Gino

Joe, I'm sure with the whole ensemble in place it will look fine.

Hey Gino,

Thanks very much for the kind words and I hope that you too one day, will do something like this so that I may see it. All the best.

Hey Bob,

I got it! He is going to be panning just like he should but maybe while he is kneeling down next to a creek he happens to spot a glint of color in a big rock in the stream. I think this could work, what do you think? I still would have some tools lying around.

Thanks for the input, really.

Years ago a company by the name of "New Frontiers" came out with several 54mm western figures and vignettes. One of them was a prospector and his mule with the mule sculpted with hair and fine detail. It was loaded with coffee pots, pans, and sacks as shown below. Right as I finished painting the mule, my puppy I had then managed to get the prospector off the desk and chewed him thoroughly. Here is the Prospector's mule, which would really look good tied behind the prospector you are doing Joe.

Hey Guy,

That does look really cool and would go well. BTW I never found those other items we talked about, I do have the other ones, dog and etc that you brought to Tulsa, I am sure we will talk about this later. ;)

I think that is an ideal solution. I think you could have some fun with his moment of discovering that while he has been panning in vane for microscopic nuggets a huge motherlode rock has exposed itself nearby. That adds a nice bit of irony I think.

Joe,

I know Doug Lee sculpted a donkey for VLS, I would wait for it and use it as it is spot on for a donkey!

The one from New Frontier have way to thick of a neck and a chumpy head.

Ok guys and ladies,

I have a delima. Bob has me thinking, which most of you know is a very dangerous thing! I had planned on this being a miner who happened to stumble across a huge nugget, well this could go as we discussed in previous or do you think this new look would be better. I am open to all.

Thanks for all the help,

BTW I have added hair to the figure.

Joe

Well after some long thoughts and a few other tips ;), thanks Bill. This is the way I am heading. I still have much to do but just wanted to share a few new pictures.
