Go for it Joe...I think the pose, coupled with the look on the face is great. I think the angle of the head in relation to the nugget helps a lot in conveying a kind of sincere surprise...a bit hard to explain what I mean...sorry.
Looks great, Joe! I like shape of his hat. Some photographs, of those rugged miners, really make the a sculptors fingers "itch". Was there any other photos that you drew inspirtaion?
Thanks to all of you for the kind words. I am having a lot of fun with this one and hope to have it finished really soon.
Roy,
Thanks. I am trying to make my figures have little more life in them instead of the old stiff looking ones I have done in the past.
Jason,
I am sure that there may be more from the era that I jump into. I have always loved this era and the clothing from it. I drew some inspiration from a few different pictures. The one thing that got me to jump into this one was seeing Bill Horan's figure in Atlanta. I can't tell you how great this figure looked in person. I just took picture after picture. It was so plain that it looked so real! I also found this miner actor while searching for information.
Sorry I missed your post! But to answer your question on if this is a one off or not, well take a look at the picture. I was pleased to be asked to sell it to VLS for their new western line so I look forward to seeing your version of the miner.
