Thanks to Paul Adams I now have some suitable wheels.
My work area is now sorted out (and I've amassed a stash of cheap tools 'n'bitz I'll probably never use) and I have some Plasticard on order (gosh, hasn't it got expensive since I last bought it c1968/9 ).
I've also confirmed that the ICM WW1 figs scale quite nicely, though perhaps a little on the slim side. Looking at them I reckon that the Gallipoli set could be modded to suit his desert service (ambitious, but I have ideas about how to both replicate the photo and a diorama of him in the field in shirts & shorts).
... so I'm running out of excuses not to start building
As there don't seem to be any extant plans for the Argyll ambulance I've had to base it on an old Profile publication and the dozen or so photos I've gathered. One thing that comes through is that there seems to have been several variations.
See attached for what I reckon is a credible design, based on the Profile illustration and data on wheelbase etc plus some reasonably educated guesses.
Four main issues remain:
> how the rear worked: I've shown it angled but I suspect that it was squared off (makes sense for accessing the bed)
> the wings and running board differ from the car, notably at the rear: I'm trying to work out whether the front wings' rears were fully faired in or left open as with the cars
> the height of the rear bed: the vehicle has an unusual drive with the shaft driving worm gears from above (see pic)... this would make the bed quite high
> several photos show a spare wheel on the offside: some show it flush (with a narrow body?), others angled out
Any thoughts on the above (or in general) would be welcome
