Thanks for the reply's.......I have tried the Tamiya and it's pretty nice but will also check out the Dupli-Color and/or PlastiKote.

Tamiya is every bit as good but probably works out at double the price , I have noticed of late that the halfords stuff tends to rub off metal figures easily and is also getting a bit pricey ; now changing to humbrol spray can acrylics decanted into the air brush which I then go over with a base coat of tamiya deck tan , a super neutral base coat.

I'm glad you said that Ron, I've noticed the same. I was beginning to think it was something I was doing wrong but couldn't work out what.

Roger.

Yea i thought it was just me also , the mere hint of touching the figure and off comes the paint .
Experiment with humbrol spray can seems an awful lot better ; test done on a metal models horse which I have handled a lot just to see what happened .
More expensive and just as good re coverage and fineness , re the halfords " it ain't cheap if it don't work "
I know GW chaos black is a devil to get off but I don't like black undercoat under oils .

That's exactly what's been happening to me Ron, every flat I've started this leave I've had the primer rub off. Lastnight some came off the 1870 Cuirassiers sleeve, :arghh: I've had to do a touch up by brushing on some Humbrol matt white.

A tin of primer usually lasts me ages because of the stuff I paint, even longer if I only paint one side, :D Richie & Dennis have put paid to that money saving scheme though. :p

Ron, Rog are you letting it dry long enough ? I've never had that problem but I give my primer 24hrs or so to really go off before painting it (tip from the car trade) as it can "shrink" before it cures
Steve

I must admit that when recently priming 28mm figs, I left them for at least 24 hrs - not experienced any paint coming off, as yet, but maybe mines an older can?!

Cheers Steve, not exactly sure how long I left it but that could well be the problem. I'll certainly make sure I leave it for a day or so just incase.

Have to agree with Steve here. I have used Halfords primer on 90+% of the models I've painted and never had any problem. Always thoroughly prepare the figure by washing and completely drying before priming. Leave primed figure for at least 48hrs to 'cure'.
I always fit figure onto a painting block or pin vice to avoid excessive handling ....... although I see Ron's handling a horse - a lot

That's exactly what I do Derek, maybe with an exception as far as the 48 hours curing time goes, having said that even when I haven't waited that long it's never been a problem...... until now.

Another tip if it's metal is to warm the figure a bit helps the cure time if you heat you can be ready to go in an hour or so
