Hello,
Does anyone have access to this old uniform reference series from Germany? I am looking for info on the standard carried by the Prussian 5th Queen’s Dragoons in 1806.

Thank you

Description of Prussian Cavalry Standards:

Faerber mentions, that a description was given by several sources, unfortunately they contradicted one another. He gives, however, a very precise description as follows: "It was the standard pattern 1866/1880 given to all mounted units of Prussian army. It was a square flag (i.e. ratio 1:1) sized 45cm x 45cm with silver fringes of length 4cm at three sides. In its centre upon an orange disc, surrounded by green laurel with silver embroideries, there was a black eagle. The eagle was facing the hoist, crowned and armed golden, holding a sword in his right and a bundle of flashes in his left claw. Above the eagle (within the disc) was a blue ribbon fimbriated golden with a motto PRO GLORIA ET PATRIA (for fame and fatherland) of the same colour. The black cloth was interrupted by white wedges in each corner having a golden cypher 'FWR'; and a crown of the same colour surrounded by a green wreath of laurel. The cypher was outwards, the crown inwards." (My interpretation: The eagle facing the hoist was the only difference of obverse and reverse).

Thank you gentlemen for the feedback. I have done numerous internet searches but haven’t found the particular plate concerning Prussian dragoons in 1806. I have the Osprey & Hourtoulle works. the Osprey work is sketchy on details and the Hourtoulle work is wrong I believe as to the color of the Queen’s 5th Dragoons. The Kronoskaf & Nec Pluribus Impar websites are excellent but cover the SYW period only. They both show that the 5th had a white Leibstandart and a black Ordenstandart when they were the Margrave of Bayreuth’s regiment. Queen Louise didn’t become colonel of the regiment until May of 1806. So my assumption is that they carried these flags in October of 1806. Other references I have found online conclude the same. The Jack Girbral painting of the capture of this flag by hussar Studer of the French 7th Hussars shows a red or maroon flag. I believe that is inaccurate. My friend John Sanheim has done much research on flags has indicated to me that the Hourtoulle books are often in error on Russian flags.
