Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

God Damn! Mark, what fantastic high resolution picture that show your stunning work mate, I´m amazed!:cool:(y)
Guderian had may awards I think the (neck) Iron cross is:
Knight's Cross Of The Iron Cross With Golden Oak leaves Swords And Diamonds I think, follow the Carl pictures.
The secon looks a award of WWI iron cross or something like that that you can paint like this pic with a golden eagle.

Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

Mark - the ribbon and eagle device on the button hole is the Iron Cross Second Class, the eagle clasp depicting a WWI award won again in WWII. I put one on my Heinz bust and painted it - black ribbon with white edging per the posting above with silver eagle atop a 1939 plaque.

This is an amazing bust that you are somehow taking to the next level. Be careful with his tunic colour as a very senior officer like Guderian would have very high quality tailored fabric in his tunic, not the usual field grey rubbish.

You can sometimes find colour photos of senior officer uniforms on some militaria sites where they are for sale.

Let me know if you want a few examples and i will have a look.

(Note: The laws of my country require it, that I have to cover the Swastikas on both orders.)

Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

Oi Mark,

Just discovered this Guderian thread, and I absolutely love the way you're paniting him.
BUT: the hatband seems to be black, which is wrong for Wehrmacht peaked caps ... their hatbands were a bluish dark green.
I have attached two pics of originals (nicked them - the pics, not the originals - from the forum at "wehrmacht-awards.com"). These should give you an idea about the correct green hue.

This one belonged to Erwin Rommel, and is still sporting silver eagle and wreath...

...and this one shows the golden insignia, that had to be worn from November 1942; of course generals being generals ...

Hopefully I'm not too late with my caveat.
Will stay tuned to see how your project is coming along.

Cheers

Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

I take it that's a painted highlight on the peak Mark? If it is it's very effective.
Carl.

Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

Really smooth man. Your works keep getting better and better with each one ( that's the goal right? ;) )

Re: Heinz Guderian Bust

Probably the best German general bust I have ever seen. Terrific job! Marvelous uniform and decorations colour and contrast together with a subtle face. Don't forget the tri-colour cockade on his cap.
