My name is Paul and I live in Powys U.K. I have been a modeller for a great many years but only recently started painting figures again. I use a mixture of acrylic and oil paints and like experimenting with different mediums to get the desired result.
I have attached some photo's of my recent work. The hussar, Kutuzov and the Russian Preobrazensky guardsman are in 54mm scale whilst the Samurai is the (very) old mounted Hinchliffe Taisho model. As can be seen this one is still WIP. The model weighs a ton and I really do not recommend it as the fit of the sections is truly appalling! It required a lot of work just to assemble it. I will update on the progress when able. Cheers, Paul

Hello, Paul and welcome to Planet Figure the best miniatures site on the web. We're happy you decided to join us and look forward to seeing more of your work. At the Planet it doesn't matter what you paint. It doesn't matter how well you paint it. All that matters is that you enjoy our shared hobby. And feel free to ask any questions you may have as you explore the site. We're all in this together.

Welcome Paul,
Some very nice stuff there.

I don't know of anyone who sings the praises of the Hinchcliffe piece.
Unfortunately a lot of people think it is Ray Lambs work. It isn't.

Hello Paul, I really like that Samurai, the intense colours remind me of the later Akira Kurosawa films.

Have fun

It was sculpted by Paul Knight. I have three of the mounted one in my closet.

Dear Yellowcat,
Thank you for the Samurai sculptor info. I must admit, I too thought that Ray Lamb had sculpted it. If you ever get around to assembling one of your mounted models be aware that the attachment of the body to the Samurai's legs was a nightmare. Masses of thick metal had to be cut away to get any sort of fit. You also need wrists like Arnie to hold the thing while you paint it! It is without doubt the heaviest model I have ever made. Cheers, Paul

Hello Paul,
I bought mine when it was first released and the fitting is fine. Yes it is one of the heaviest white metal kit.

Hi Richie, thank you for the welcome email. I originally hail from Birkenhead many moons ago but do have a SWB connection. My Grandfather served in the 7th. Batt. SWB during WWI on the Macedonian front. He was part of an attack on a Bulgarian / German position during the battle for the Grand Courrone. This was a heavily fortified mountain. Nearly 550 SWB’s attacked and only 19 survived without wounds, my grandpa being on of them. So, I am lucky to be here! He carried the field telephone which with the wet battery weighing so much was only armed with a pistol! He exited the war suffering from the effects of chlorine gas and recurrent malaria attacks. He lived to 93 fuelled by Guiness and malt whiskey!
cheers,
Paul
