I was going to wait till I’d taken some better photos to post this but I just haven’t got round to it, and if I wait any longer it won’t be ‘recently completed’ anymore.

I’ve just returned to the hobby after a long lay off (like twenty-five years) and this is the first thing I’ve got done. I work almost exclusively with Historex kits - they’re labour intensive but I love the flexibility they offer. First Empire Napoleonic is my favourite period too and there’s a lot of that at Historex. :)

He’s a Trumpet Major of the Grenadiers a Cheval of the Imperial Guard in parade dress from about 1805-1807 and probably jogging on down to the Tuileries or something like that. He’s a made from a stock Historex kit but with a Nemrod resin head a good deal of Milliput animation/scratch building. There’s plenty of room for improvement but I’m learning to live with what I couldn’t get right and I’m also starting to think that acrylics might update my rather ‘old school’ oil painting technique.

Hi Paul

Great to see the completed pics following on from the interesting V Bench here https://www.planetfigure.com/posts/1376441/

Love the presentation of this , the detail painting looks great , trumpet banner and the horse really shine

Why not look at supporting the comp ( in the class of your choice )

Look forward to seeing what’s next , always good to see Historex being modelled

Happy benchtime

Absolutely wonderful, I too love Historex and it's fantastic to see one completed to this level. What a great return to the hobby, please keep going!

Lovely job Paul, superbly painted.

By all means try acrylics but I much prefer oils.
I start most projects with the intention of painting in acrylics but always revert to oils.

It's all been said above already so I can but agree, this is a wonderful figure and your painting style is far from old school. I look forward to your posts as you continue on your journey with Historex.

Cheers Simon

Beautiful work overall.
The biggest problem I've always had with Napoleonics on horseback is sorting and attaching all the bridle parts. Good job there!
I recently started painting again after about 10 years off. You obviously haven't lost your touch.

Many thanks indeed for all the kind and encouraging words - very much appreciated. The internet can certainly be a double edged sword in many respects but online communities such as this for what is otherwise a fairly niche activity, I’m finding, are wonderful. In the past it was a pretty solitary activity so to find people that similarly ‘get it’ and share one’s obsessions is really great - thanks again - and Happy Christmas!
