Excellent stuff Ron. Interesting to learn about your technique.

Cheers

Huw

Thanx Huw , hope you get something out of it,
The credit has got to go to its pioneer ' Max Longhirst " I just updated a bit by using Filbert brushes , Ron Clark " Kagamusha " also uses this technique with great success on Busts .

The paint is so thin at the end of the process it will be touch dry in two days , it also makes painting the head harness a cinch as it is done on the first application , all you do then is lift off with the sponge and go over with a nice dry fresh brush , when dry it is easy to go back in with thinned paint and to apply shadows where the harnessing crosses and meets .
I will do this in the next couple of days and post more pictures .

Ron

You are most welcome Roger (y)

Hear is a closeup of the head with the harness detail
IMG_2567.JPG IMG_2570.JPG IMG_2571.JPG this was all done just by lifting the paint off with sponge and back over with filberts

I use the makeups also. They are great to get the brushstrokes away. I use also some brushes from the Action. Very cheap € 1,25 for 6 pieces in various sizes.
Good to have them.
So you use a undercoat off???????? Humbrol,Acrylic??

Marc

Marc its all at the start of this SBS , but here is a recap :) the base coat is Tamiya XF 55 deck Tan
IMG_2420.JPG applied with air Brush , you can use this colour with great effect under most oils as it is very neutral and oils cover it well , Esp reds and greens along with all earth pigments

Ron, this is a delight and I promise I will paint a horse soon. I have bookmarked this so I can follow it.
Thank you

Glad you like it Bob , you will be surprised how easy it is , just as long as you use the right brushes " filberts 8 & 10 are ideal and a smooth base coat .
I am going to change the base coat on the second horse to Humbrol sahara sand straight from the can .

Ron, I don't possess an airbrush will a smooth coat with a brush still yield good results.

It will depend on how smooth you can apply it I suppose , What do you use for priming and what paints do you use for undercoating .
If you are going to do something like this . Humbrol acrylic sahara sand from the aerosol range is great .

It would appear to be these Ron, I think also by Games workshop

As far as I know....they have no affiliation with GW....I now use AP in preference to GW....simply because they are better and seem to go further :sneaky:
As an aside....I personally find they have a better 'tooth' for oils.....they shrink tight to fine detail also (y)
