I've recently started working on my third 90mm figure (and first mounted one). There is still a long way to go, but I wanted to share my progress so far. This is a great sculpt from Pegaso and hopefully I can do it justice.

He'll be carrying a captured standard when he's completed. I don't suppose anyone out there has a source for standards from the crusade. The figure is early 1200's, so perhaps the 5th crusade.

I'd like to hear any comments or suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Being a captured flag, I put head on to highlight the fact that it belongs to the enemy. But it is only a suggestion.
I used as reference for designing these illustrations by Angus McBride, Osprey MAA belonging to series. Banners Muslims, could have, passages of the Koran and geometric motifs characteristic of his art. I hope it´s helpful.

Thank you all for the comments.

Edorta, great information! Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I really appreciate it.

...first mounted figure? Dear me, an excellent start mate.

I really do like this one. I wasn't sure at first , but seeing yours is making me start wanting one!

well done.

I have seen this figure up close and as usual the pics really don't do it justice.

David, I'm looking forward to following along and seeing the completed figure.

Thank you all for the comments. There have been a number of posts here on painting/shading black that have been quite helpful. I'm using a mix of brown and tanned skin for highlights.

I just wanted to post a quick update. My focus has turned from the knight to the mount. I'm doing a lot of the painting while I assemble for easier access. I worked on the legs and underside of the horses covering before putting it all together. I then started working on the black on the outside of the covering along with the other small details. The rear isn't finished, but I'm quite happy with how the front looks.

I'll be painting the typical hospitaller crosses on the horse and the knight's shield. I don't think I'll be deviating too much from the box art. I'll be able to get a little more creative with the captured standard (thanks again to Edorta for some great reference pictures). Just writing Arabic looks daunting to me, painting it should be... interesting.

Just a minor update. It's been hard to find the time to get much painting done. I've pretty much finished the mount. I'll probably do some fine tuning and some weathering once the rider is in place.
