Hello planeteers, i was in the process of preparing my next batch of figures to paint and ocurred to me that it would be a good idea to do kind of a SBS on how i prepare the figs.
Before i proceed i want to remark that this is what's work for me.
It may seem like a lenghty process, but i am happy with the results and i hope it could work for someone who is interested in trying it.
1- I start by "Sanding" the figure with a scotchbrite sponge to get rid of the casting residue, kind of polishing the figure.
2- once sanded, i fill up a bowl with warm/hot water and detergent, i let the figure/s sit for 30 minutes.
3- i take the parts or figure from the bowl and use and old toothbrush and brush the figure all around.
4- i Wash the figure with warm water and fill up the bawl with alcohol, submerge the figure for few minutes and then wahs it again with water, let it dry and paint it.
most of the time before i prime the figure i heat it up with blowdryer, that makes the primer to adhere better to the fig.
Best regards

This is close to what I do, but the soaking and the heating up will be something I'll try. Thanks for sharing, Tom.

The soaking is simply just to get rid of the casting release agent and some " carbon" on the lead.
I've red in many occasions that heating the figure really helps the primer to stick to the figure.
cheers Tom

Hi my friend,
Can i ask you what primer do you use?
Hi Bimmer, depends what size of figures i am working on.
the 40mm figures i am painting a French regiment in white coats, so i use the primer/color skeleton bone form Army painter which is the color on the figs shown on the picture , if i am painting an irish regiment or redcoats i use the Army painter red dragon.
As for the normal size figures i use a really good primer that was recommended here in the forum and if you are in the US is Brite touch grey color, to me is the best primer i have ever use, it cost about $5 (us dollars) and dries very quick, smooth finish.
Regards
