Mark

So let me get this correct Mark, a whole group of planeteers have been contributing to a thread with fervour and enthusiasm.
Then you join in when a welsh man in his yellow pants appears.
Maybe there's a misunderstanding about your preferences. I think from one gentleman to another I should probably just call that a coincidence.
By the way, it is an old piccie, del has the slightly higher forehead, and I'm in the conker smugglers.
Please don't tell squizzie

This will be my last contribution to this great thread.

With all these inspirational statues about, I must tell of one in the jardin des Tuilleries in Paris. It is a bronze of a Rodin piece called "the Kiss", and the figures had sat there for 100 years, frozen in the act of just being about to enjoy themselves. And an angel, looking down on them, took pity on their frustration and brought them to life. He told them that because they had been good and patient and uncomplaining, they could have one hour of doing whatever they wanted:happy:. So they looked at each other, whispered together, then holding hands, they ran off into the bushes giggling. And there was more giggling and rustling of the bushes, and fifteen minutes later they came back to the angel. And the angel said "but you've got three quarters of an hour left, don't you want to do more?". So they looked at each other and whispered together and the man said " let's do it again only this time, I'll hold the pidgeon down and you shit on his head". :woot:

I saw this one in NYC in September... located on the edge of Ground Zero. A tribute to the first troops into the Afghanistan region after 9/11.

Beautiful, moving sculpt... would make a great fig IMHO

I took my own pics of it while I was there but it was surrounded by construction hoarding so the pics aren't great. These I believe were taken when the statue was put in location.

Love that colin
"Old iconography" modern sculpt.
Terrific.
I'm putting another Canadian one amongst these for you if you recognise the individual Valiants I'd love to know more about them. I suspect one is general Brock?
Paul

Nice one's Paul...
I think the one in the tricorn is Wolfe... the fore and aft bicorn is most like Brock. The other (older) Colin would know better. He'd also know the two figs in the foreground most likely. I always defer to him on Canadian history.

Colin

Thanks Colin, I suspected he was Brock, It's a great way to set them out isn't it.

Hard to believe I'm finding Canadian monuments you guys haven't already put here !
(I love the native on the old Ottowa monument).

I alway defer to older wiser older folk too by the way,
Crf, Noah, Grod, Tommi, and Methusela :D

Paul,
Our Brit and French background is shown in the statues, plaques, monuments and memorials you find all over Canada. Especially in our older cities and provinces... Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto the Maritime provinces etc. There's a stretch along the St Lawrence and eastern Lake Ontario where every little town has a monument of some description, not to mention the hotspot of the War of 1812, the Niagara region.
One day this summer, before the Pan Am games start and bugger the whole city, I'll grab my camera, jump on the bike and see how many pieces I can find within an hour's ride of my place. I can start right at my own workplace, at Sunnybrook, where there's monuments all over the grounds including our own cenotaph and a tribute to Churchhill.

Colin

Sounds terrific.
I have always been fascinated by the 1812 war with America and in particular the
first invasion of the West from Detroit into Allbany Toronta and Fort 'Michilimacinac'?
Along with the action of the Quebec Voltigeurs.
I would love to see your Photographs when you get away on the hog.
