Well, after all the damage you have done it seems a good idea for me that you show something about your work here

The damage is only in imagination of those who choose to believe that damage has been done, Marc.

Now stop being a critical parent ;)

And lets not flood a useful thread with bickering anymore.

Time to lock the thread before more people end up with bruised karma

I was going to say lock it too but you beat me to it Gaudin. But the damage is already done....to this site IMO...and not by one individual.

Well if this thread is to be locked then I had better reply quick.
I certainly hope I cannot be accused of causing the demise of a site purely on doubt being put on one of my pieces, some 2 years after release.
It is true correspondence has been done between David and me and I have no problem, equally I had no problem with a specific thread aimed at the 1st grenadier colour, and although not direct we know what piece it was referring too.
I am not too precious or have offended karma and I do believe in accuracy.
That said, and it is entirely down to me, when a piece is questioned to accuracy some of the magic and enthusiasm goes, not necessarily for the piece but the drive to continue with it.
As mentioned, Carl worked extremely hard to produce this for me and it is one of my best and certainly most poignant pieces I own.
My comments on withdrawing were and are genuine, if historical accuracy is to be welcomed, which it is, then the response when doubt is put on a piece surely can be no less than I have said.
Taking a step back last night I had to decide what value the piece is to the figure community and the comments of support, of which I am very grateful decided for me. It will remain but in my eyes as an interpretation, I think I got lost and sucked in slightly forgetting what has been said, this is an art and to me this piece is art at its best.
I did not and don't want any rifts between members, I don't think this thread really has got out of hand despite what some may think. There are 2 sides to the fence that's all and perspectives depend on what side you are stood
Best wishes
Gra

I do not see the need to lock this thread! This is a tool that has been used far too often of late.
"Historical Accuracy" is a moot point for most, as the primary function of this forum is the art of figure 'painting', is it not.
Many pieces have been called into question over the years where accuracy of depiction is concerned but, for me at least, the pleasure is in the painting. I am not, nor do I profess to be, a historian. Just a simple painter.
Whilst I try to understand the need for a reasonably accurate presentation of a piece, it is not my primary concern, as I buy a given piece based on it's appeal.
This thread was born out of another, with it's aim being to clarify references used by two different people concerning a two year old piece, which had not been questioned upon it's release?!
It saddens me greatly that this has arisen after so many people brought this piece and were more than happy with it, myself included, so why now is it deemed to be inaccurate/unworthy of it's place.
I find that the most disturbing question of all.
The one good thing that has come out of this is the wealth of reference pictures and text from sources of renown, that have given me at least, a better view of the history and atmosphere of the piece in question.

When this thread started it was about historical accuracy and a flag carried/not carried 200 years ago. It might had that taste who is right or wrong as well but it was a friendly discussion between hobbyists. Now it has turned into accusations about inflicted damages, hidden agendas and possible withdrawal of a great model for reasons I cannot understand. - Guys take a step back and get a life!
There is not only a tendency to close threads but as well a tendency to destroy ego`s and replying in a destructive way on posts of fellow members in the last weeks. We cannot change that problem by closing threads but by stop posting that kind of aggravated ...ehm... posts (I will not fall into the same trap:)).
Get along with each other!
Cheers, Martin

I was one of the first to buy this Bust and it now resides in my box of despair .

Not because there is anything wrong with it , I just hashed up the paint job and set it aside to wait for better days .
I think I will get him out and award him a new eagle and standard as this is one of the best there is and deserves pride of place in any cabinet .
Do not withdraw this piece Gra , everyone is rambling about the flag , and forgot about how emotional the whole piece is , and Mr Smudger has brought it to it;s zenith .

Many thanks Ron,I hope I can do it justice

Another quote, "Why so serious"? (the Joker, The Dark Knight).
Kagemusha,Martin and Ron's comments are all welcome in the spirit of reconcilliation.
I fully understand and accept that many modellers are motivated by the painting side of the hobby. I am not a
confident painter. This is not why I critise work, but maybe why accuracy is more important me than to others)

Assuming the error is accepted as such, there is still no reason for conflict, if this piece has an inacurracy there are still three options if you like it.
1) The Modeller's approach:- buy it and do some corrective work.
2) The Painter: - Sand down the flag detail and repaint it (surely a welcome challenge!).
3) None of the above or everyone:- Just buy it and accept the inherent error as regretable but unimportant to you.

If you've already completed it , just be proud of the good work you have done rather than letting the error dominate your thinking.

To hopefully end on a lighter note, I saw this on t'internet. The sentiment is not mine, it was already on the pic.

To add a final lighter note, here is my photo of dog red sector of Omaha beach, taken 27th sept 2014 from easy green 100m to the east looking west to the bluffs below Vierville sur mere .
You will have to take my word for this obviously, but there are some very large depressions scattered amongst the dunes and bits of rusty old metal: clearly the remains of these AtAts and their footprints.
However even the most cursory glance reveals there are no tracks or marks left by these alleged landing craft.
I therefore think this photo is probably a fake !

Paul.

I don't think its a fake!
I believe the original picture was taken by a Mr A Lincoln, whilst holidaying with his pre op transexual wife Barry and his pet python Alan in northern France during the summer of 44.

I do think it would make a lovely piece though, especially if it possessed an unrealistic stiffness and disproportionate head.

I would like to say that I am Alan, and I am not anyone's pet python. I am a Boa Constrictor, an have just swallowed a goat.
