Well presented bust and very skilfully rendered with oils. Original name plate and spelling is fine.
Overall a nicely done original version of a historical character who is sadly under-represented in modern miniature.

And I thought academics were pedantic Cool bust, nicely painted. Didn't understand about making the nameplate "the Del way" (I assume it has something to do with Derek), please explain.

The Del method as taught by the Glasgow School of Fine arts http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/hand-knitted-nameplates.54541/ Joking aside it's a very easy and very effective method of creating name plates which suit any figure up to the mid 1800's really and I'm sure could be adapted for later periods
