Reason # 5

The Knowledge.

Having spoken about the social side in Reason #4, the knowledge falls close on the back of that, because through socialising and meeting other modellers, we get to talk about what we’re doing, the way we think something will go together or get painted and that’s where “the Knowledge” comes in.

Sometimes we hit a brick wall regarding inspiration, or even the method of how to do something. Talking to fellow modellers at FigureWorld 2014 can break that block or give us the means to render something that up until that point we’d struggled with.

As mentioned, last year there were over 200 modellers and sculptors attending FigureWorld, every last one of them has different ways of doing certain things, and by tapping in to this, we’re pretty sure that most – if not all – problems regarding our hobby can be overcome.

So, Reason #5 for attending FigureWorld 2014 – the knowledge of over 200 other modellers that can be tapped into to help get the effect or accomplish the result that you want.

Don’t forget – FigureWorld 2014, being held on Saturday the 19th of July 2014 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Times for the show will be the same as last year – 9:30am until 16:30pm.

And I Quote " Oh for a muse of fire that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention" or words to that effect!:whistle:
Being pretty much tea total, I hadn't thought of going to the pub afterwards!
Best wishes, Gary.

If you are interested in figure modelling you will love Figure World

Figure World is THE event for figure modellers. The show celebrates, showcases and develops the art of model figure painting and sculpting. It caters for all figure modellers whatever genre, scale or era they are interested in. From 28mm to 500mm, from dwarves to space marines, from Celtic warriors to WW2 soldiers; Figure World brings together the many elements of figure modelling and offers something for all.

“These are big claims. How does Figure World do this?”

Here is what a prospective visitor to Figure World will experience:

  • A warm welcome
  • An opportunity to talk figure modelling to others with similar interests
  • Displays of figures covering all areas of the hobby put on by clubs and individuals. (Yes bring your work there will be space to display it. All welcome: from first-timers to gold medal winners)
  • Demonstrations on figure painting and airbrushing by top modelers who will be happy to share their experience and skill
  • Free Speed-Paint competition (see Facebook page for details)
  • An opportunity to relieve yourself of some cash from the UK’s top figure and accessory manufacturers and retailers

The core to the success of Figure World 2013 was the large area where members of major modelling clubs and the public, displayed hundreds of their model figures. Here visitors can spend time in a relaxed atmosphere, studying the work of figure painters and sculptors from around the UK; picking up ideas and inspiration while looking at the different ways each exhibitor interprets their subject.

For those staying all day there are light refreshments available in the venue and for something more substantial there are a good range of eateries in the town of Oundle, only a few minutes’ walk from the venue.

If you are a figure modeller, don’t miss out on the only event in the UK that has been put on to meet your needs.

Reason # 6

The Speed Painting.

A new addition to FigureWorld, and something different. The idea is to bring your own paints and brushes etc, and then paint something quick !

The “something” in question is a bust sculpture by Rob Lane produced specially for the speed painting event and is being given free of charge to all twelve of the entrants.

12 places are available, the group of painters will sit down together and within three quarters of an hour……..well, we’ll see what the result is.

The point is to paint the face to as high a standard as you can in that time – painting the rest of the bust is optional……..and if you’ve got the time.

The fun starts at 2pm when all the people registered will sit down with their own paints and brushes and be given their starting orders.

Sound’s simple ? Well there might be a couple of other hurdles put in your way, but it is meant to be for fun.

It’s brilliant to take part in, but also very good to watch as different techniques and ideas come to the fore from different painters to get results fast. If you’ve never seen a Speed Painting competition before, then this is your chance.

The Speed-painting event is sponsored by Rob Lane from Elan 13 and Martyn Dorey from MDP – both of whom have trade stands at the show. The speed painting event will be held upstairs where the demonstrators were housed last year.

PLEASE NOTE. Participation in the speed painting is free, but by pre-registration only – please contact Robin Snelson at :-

So, Reason #6 for going to FigureWorld 2014 – Speed Painting…….come on, you know you want to !

FigureWorld 2014 – the place to be on Saturday the 19th of July 2014, Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Times for the show will be the same as last year – 9:30am until 16:30pm.

Looking forward to it. My third year and its always a pleasure.

As usual, I'll use the show to release a couple of figures:

  • TW54023 – Corporal, Royal Irish Rifles, Loos 1915 (1/32 figure)
  • TW54024 – Private, 8th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, Gallipoli 1915 (1/32 figure)
  • TW10B02 – Captain, 2nd Bn South Wales Borders, Tsingtao 1914 (1/10 scale bust)
So, they will be available on the day at Figureworld, with all the other figures from the range (y)

That's great news Darren, I went round the Lancs Fusiliers museum while up in Bury visiting relatives back in March this year. What a top museum with a very good section on Gallipoli. Btw do I need to place an order in advance? Any news on the Pals Battalions?
Cheers
Roy

The Ideas.

In Reason #5 we mentioned “the Knowledge” – all that skill, experience and general know-how that’s wandering around FigureWorld for the day that you can tap into. The problem is, that once you start talking to folk, start seeing the traders with their new products and get all enthused…..Well, you get new ideas !

And really this is another facet of being in a room with so many models, fellow modellers and the ability to purchase new stuff – the ideas that form can be built on.

Simply seeing the displays can make you think up new things you’d like to produce – and in 2013 there were over 500 figure models, flats, dioramas and vignettes on show – all easy to see on the large central display area, and open for anyone to put models on who wants to.

What more can be said then for Reason #7, but that there’s going to be loads of ideas generated for future projects……………….Fantastic !!!

FigureWorld 2014 – the place to be on Saturday the 19th of July 2014, Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.
