Just for fun: Music

A pop-up appeared today that said,
"The best double albums of all time!"
So I thought that could be something to put up here:
What are your thoughts?
Shall we get a feel for each others' musical tastes?
Maybe add an album sleeve pic?

Mine are eclectic. Classical, polkas, marches, jazz and big bands, German "Volksmusi". Kind of tired of rock, I've outgrown it, but still listen to this or that if it comes up on the radio. Yes, I still listen to the radio. But those genres are reflected in the YouTube playlists that I have.
Another playlist I have is original New Wave-Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, and their contemporaries, not that soulless synth-pop crap that followed. Still pull those up occasionally.
I hated disco, when I lived through it. Now I can still pull up a K&C and the Sunshine Band tune, triggered by some memory. But I hated and still hate the Seventies, polyester, the Beautiful People, Italian snaggletooth pendants, unisex haircuts, Garanimals, colored denim, Jimmy Carter, the Ayatollah. What an incredibly awful, awful time!

Then popular music turned into weak instant coffee with too much cold milk.

I've quite a varied taste in music. Led Zeppelin. Two Cello's, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac.
I've a few soundtracks from movies, and I tend to listen to them if I'm painting a piece that corresponds with it.
At the moment though I'm hooked on Sabaton.

After a day of teaching SEMH and special needs kids, my modelling time is my unwinding, peaceful time. I cant listen to the music I used to love or watch TV anymore, after recovering from burnout, some years ago.

Well mine are Led Zep, pink floyd, Deep Purple, cream, Jeff Beck, journey, Kansas, Styx, to name but a few.

Used to play in a band meany years ago with my great friends. We cut a album way back in 1982. We started in 1975 finished in 88. Great times lots of fun would not swap it for the world. No X factor back then. We were a 7 piece outfit.

Sad to say Fat Steve is no longer with us and Gary suffers from Parkinson’s. But we are all still in touch and love remembering the great days when we thought we were going to be the next big thing.

Before you ask, the concept is this. Every, I mean every UK top 40 hit from 1952 - 1999. Over 15000 songs on a varied loop. You've literally no idea what's coming next. Stuff you've never heard, or haven't heard since. NO presenters, no news etc. Just the music. The wondering what's next aspect is addictive! Radio just plays the same old shite - not any more!

If you're prepared to search, there do seem to be some decent stations and websites available
Getting a company car (with no cd player ... grrr) means I just listen to the radio. But it has DAB, so I tend to choose Jazz FM and my Alexa app playlist is improving. Finding new bands to enjoy (at 54, almost 55, this is a delight).

Hi Wayne would have put Uriah Heep along with UFO, Gental Giant,Rainbow,Black Sabbath, jethro Tull, wishbone Ash, Allman Brothers the list goes on.

Has to not making it well that’s Rock N Roll for you. They did not know a good thing when they heard it but we had one hell of a try. Some of us got together a couple of years ago to play at a friends 65th Birthday, sadly only 4 of the original band played I played Drums well enough to get by. we had a 5th guy fill in Ian’s son Douglas filled in on guitar. Went down a storm still life in the old dogs yet never too old to do your thing.

What a small world I was a drummer in a band called Genesis, unfortunately some other guys came out with that name too, ( The nerve, pinching our name. ) so we changed our name to Quest.
I met up with the rhythm guitarist the other day, after 40 years, lots to talk about.
Funny thing is Steve, we thought we were the next big thing too.

BBC Radio 3 . Classical mostly these days. Played in Brass Bands years ago so got into listening to Black Dyke etc again more recently . Choral music as well very relaxing while painting….. must be getting old. Recently got a second hand Cd player and separate amp, you know the older hifi separates. I found the quality of cd’s to still be much better than downloaded bluetooth stuff and there are still ‘sleeve’ notes so at least you have some info on whats going on.. By the way the 50th anniversary Tubular Bells is well worth getting on Cd !

Oh yes, Wayne. Uriah Heep, saw them two or three times live. .... Wizard, what an album.
Rick Wakeman was a favourite too. What a keyboard player.

I am old and got into music at a very young age. I loved the late 60s psychedelic scene, the first single I bought (aged 10) was See Emily Play by Pink Floyd. So loved their Barrett-era stuff and other late 60s psych stuff. I then got into prog rock and kraut rock, so Genesis, Yes, ELP, Can, Amon Duul II, Kraftwerk et al. I then went punk in 76, so it was the likes of the Damned and the Vibrators for me. Then post-punk in the 80s, so bands like Magazine, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, PiL etc. Since the 90s I haven't really stayed up with the trends so these days I mostly listen to old stuff plus a lot of ambient and doom metal. And I've always loved Roxy and Bowie, so they are always on the playlist.

I was a big Hawkwind fan back in the day, so Space Ritual is one of my fave double albums. Certainly a great live album.

Sorry, Genesis without Peter Gabriel isn't Genesis........... I saw them on the Foxtrot, Selling England and Lamb Lies Down tours, they were incredible live in the early 70s, when most bands just turned up in jeans with greasy hair their stage show was amazing.

I suspect many of us have some music in our past. I've sung, played bass and lead guitar in several bands on the 70s and 80s. A demo tape by one band I was in got reviewed in Sounds in 1979 alongside an (at the time) unknown group called U2.....whatever happened to them? Came quite close to being signed in the early 80s but sadly it didn't happen. Probably a good thing as I wouldn't be making model soldiers.......
