Karl had a bit of an underbite which I'm trying to show. I need to work a bit more on this. I'm also still working in the detail on the ear.

Awesome work Gary!

He is really comming around, love the underbite and the nose. The started hair really helps his 'outline' as well. Keep it up!

I'm going to finish off the face and add in a little musculature to the neck before baking.

Well. I'm definitely late on this thread. But it's more fun that way. I can see all the progress you've made in the last days and avoid most of the apprehension of waiting for more. It's really looking good, Gary.

God I envy all you guys who seem to easily shape a pile of clay or paste, and turn it into a recognisable piece of art. Hats of to your talent... ;)

I already liked the "sketch" but this is really wonderful.
I am fascinated that you are able to put those features in so precisely.
He looks like my mental picture of Karl already.

I read you use Sculpey. Is it for a special reason that you don't use epoxy putty on this bust ?
I have recently started to play around with FIMO, a soft one component oven hardening polymer clay, which seems somewhat similar to Sculpey and have a hard time not to destroy formerly finished detail :(

Gary.....very nicely done.

Agree with Manfred - loved the 'sketch'.
Would the bust have been baked at all at this stage?

Guys, Thank you verymuch for the kind words. I have really gotten very little done on him recently, but hope to remedy this over the next few days.

Though I've used putty for entire project there is no substitute for a material that does not cure in a few hours. The face has to be the most important part of the figure, and most enjoyable to do. It's especially important to use Sulpey on a head of this size, putty would have been a nightmare.

I'm becoming more satisfied with the overall look of the face though more needs to be done. I've always approched the project as trying to create a "reconstruction" of Karl's face rather than an artistic type portrait. The Cuirass and clothing will most likely be done in Aves putty after the head and hair are complete and baked. Thanks again.~Gary

I have manage to refine the features on Karl, in addition to getting the left ear almost complete and redoing the left eye 4-5 times befor getting it to look like the right. Here are some pics showing my progress.

This picture shows his receeding hairline which I thought added a lot of character to he overall appearance.

This rear view shows how I am blocking in the hair with little clumps of sculpey here and there.

These next photos show the hair almost completely roughed in along with the neck and the shoulders.
