Almost finished the horse and blanket.

The horse pattern was inspired by a bronze piece by Western sculptor Dave McGary.

As you can see I removed the large pedestal base that was attached to the piece and replaced it with a steel rod, I did this to make the completed figure slightly shorter and so I could use one of my wooden bases.

I also added a different bridle that I have not completed.

I will add some Native American decorations to the bridle when finished.

I have not yet painted the saddle which is a beautiful piece by itself. Too bad most of it will not be seen once the blanket and rider are mounted.

I still have some touch up work on the horse.

So far it has been fun.

A good painting representation of a very difficult horse marking scheme to pull off (do they call it a 'piebald' or something similar) ?

Just one thing, is it the photo angle or is the horse's muzzle/face flat more like a bulldog's than a horse as the face just looks weird in the photos and in side profile.?

Here is my latest progress.

Body has been partially painted.

The detail is very demanding to paint but fun also.

My only regret is that there is so much detail in the figure that will never be seen once the figure is assembled.

The shield is complete except for adding the feathers.

There are forty-two individual feathers not including those on the headdress and lance.

I reshaped the knife sheath and added fringe.

The bow and arrow sheaths are finished, I added fringe here also.

The face is finished but still a lot of work left to do on the headdress.

I have made the moccasins but they are not yet painted.

Getting there! I mounted the body and blanket on the horse and added the reins. I attached the bow and arrow cases to the rider thrown over his shoulder and made the strap out of electrical tape. The photos of the unpainted complete figure shows them hanging from the horse but I thought they looked better on the figure where he would carry itin battle

Wow! Great work on the rider! And on the saddle (amazing textures!), and on the horse as well! (y)

May I ask which medium (oils, acrylics, enamels, a mix of some of these) you use?

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply & info.

Looking forward to see the painted face/head.

Cheers!

That’s a great looking horse. The Bonapartes kit really does look a lot like the Pegaso. The Bonapartes figure does have a feathered trailer that the Pegaso doesn’t have. I sometimes think that the sculptor tried to put in too much, but the kit is awesome and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. While painting and building the figure I have often used many of the finished Pegaso figures as inspiration.
