More recent work, this time on Young's WWI Lancs Fusilier, one of my antecedent regiments.

Hi Steve working on this one myself at the moment, started early 2016 as a Somme centenary piece but didn't get it finished so went back to it a few weeks ago when Brian posted his recently finished version, its great to see that its still a popular bust, and a lot of painters do it as it means something a little bit special to them.
My only comment is that I tend to try and get a totally Matt finish on the clothing and webbing on WW1/WW2 subjects as it looks more realistic, I am still experimenting with achieving this, I paint with oils the end result can be in the lap of the gods but lots of tips on PF of how to perfect your results.

Yes Steve I have tried acrylics but can't get them to work so I use them as an undercoat for the oils and always add Tamiya X-21 to make sure that they dry out Matt however I am tempted to try Jo Sonjas acrylics in tube form as it seems that they dry out Matt without adding anything.

Hi Terry, I've been haring wonderful things about the Jo Sonja range in various places. I can't get to grips with oils :( I did use enamels back in the day. I have also heard guys waxing lyrical about lacquer based paints.

Hi Steve

Nice to see another one of this popular release here , agree with Gell's comments .

Sometimes with acrylics shine can happen if the paint isn't shaken before use ...personally I don't use too much ink washes , preferring paint washes ..but that X21 should help,

Thanks for sharing

Yeah, I agree, but inks have their place I think. you can get a sharper paint line with just a wee bit of ink in the mix.
