Roger ,

Good to see your work as always ..love the composition of this , like others have said ...great start ...always a pleasure to see your WIP's ...and the horse is amazing ...flats are your speciality especially after you have found oils ..love the way you highlight and shade...

What about some techniques if you are able to share

Thanks for posting this

Nap

Any update pictures on how your collection/Display cabinet looks now ???

Ken, cheers mate, I'm thinking of asking Ulrich to knock me up one of his bases. I'll speak to him tomorrow evening with the dimensions and see what he thinks.

Kev, thanks very much. I'll find a figure and try and do a little demo and take some pics of the cabinet too.

Roger.

Excellent work Roger! ... Your move to oils was a great decision!.. much more depth, and lustre. Its bringing out your skills 'Big-Time'. I have never been overly enthused about 'Flats',.. but I know quality work when I see it! (y)(y)

Hi, Roger, I didn't know you were home from the sea again! I missed the start of this one, but I'm catching up. Great start, and I like your idea to test yourself by limiting the number of distinct colors on the palette. That's a good exercise.

I really like how the red on her dress came out, to my eye, it has a depth or a richness to it.

Is this a single casting?

Well done, looking forward to your progress, prosit!
Brad

Roger - I have never had the accoutrements to attempt flats or demi-rounds but this has got me sorely tempted.....cool scene.

Cheers Brad. What you see is a single casting and the background is in two parts. I have a feeling the uniform details are a bit dodgy but I've decided to stay true to the painting rather than worry myself about trivial details like that. :troll:

Roger.

Wow, the mounted officer looks fantastic... what a great blue! The browns on the other gentleman's coat and waist coat turned out really well also.
This will be a beautiful vignette when it's done
