I am working on the Michael Roberts 100mm figure of an officer of the 2nd Life Guards in the Sudan in 1885. The painting instructions leave something to be desired and my references on this campaign are a little thin.

The figure is wearing the blue-grey serge tunic. I assume the buttons should be brass but does anyone know the correct colors for the rank stars on the shoulder? Also, was the sword scabbard bare metal or was it covered in leather (or some other material)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pete

Pete, If I remember correctly there is an illustration by Pierre Turner in Michael Barthorp's book British Cavalry Regiments since 1660. I'm away from home with work but if you can wait a week or so I'll have a look.
In the meantime if anyone else has the book they could scan the relevent plate, assuming my memory isn't playing tricks on me .

Roger.
