Hello friends!,
A little question...,
Wich are the general opinion about small figures (1/72+-20mm) ?.
Many people thought, these figures are a"Minor Art",only to play games, not
for collection.
It is true?.

Tomas

Tomas, A good question. I have quite a few 25mm Landsknects that I painted years ago in my collection and see many more I would like to add.

Tomas,

That is a good question. I personally consider it an art as much as we consider our 54mm and 120mm an art. I know a guy in my home town that paints 25mm gaming and historical figures, and he does a terrific job with his painting but when it came time for a local show we had, his entries were kind of looked by because they we gaming pieces. Yet, if he were to go to a show consisting of mainly of 25mm gaming pieces, I'm sure he would do quite well. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here, but everyone has ther own opinion, right or wrong.

I edited the Photos that Tomas was trying to download and reduced their size so that they could be seen and added to his posting.
Beautiful sculpting Tomas..........absolutely stunning detail. I would love to paint these as they would really turn out well.

Tomas, they are for war gamers and collectors, in my opinion, it takes as much skill to sculpt a 20mm as it does to sculpt a 54 otr a 90mm.
The deatails on these litle gems is fantastic.

Roc. :)

Thank you for your comments,Roc.
Really, the art to simplify (pose, details etc...) in this scales is the best way to make them.
Its a binomius between the details 90mm figures than the pose ot the 54mm
figures ;) .

I doubt that anyone here would say that a 30mm flat is not a legitimate "figure" simply because of its size, shape or subject matter. How are wargame figures any different?

First of all, I'm not sure that the name "wargame figure" is quite correct. While these figures may have started out as wargame pieces, I think their use and artistic interpretation by some has branched out well beyond just a gaming piece. I have freinds who paint them as works of art, or use them in dioramas because it is more economical to create a 4-6 figure diorama using smaller pieces. Who's to say this is not legitimate when it is done well? Does size matter? Ask your woman! ;)

As has been mentioned above, the sculpting on some of these pieces is nothing short of amazing. When properly painted and presented, they are real "eye candy." I admit they can be hard to see, especially for us old timers, but some of these displays are definitely worth dragging out the old magnifying glass for a closer look. IMHO, there is room for good art of any size or subject matter.

Happy painting.

Thanks Pat,
I prepair a few ot these little figures to start to paint.Maybe a "candy eye"
diorama about Penisular War...

Those look awesome, Thomas! You know, up until ten years ago, thats pretty much all I ever painted (with the occasional 54mm thrown in)! To answer your question-No, not minor art. I look at this scale the same way I do 54mm. It's amazing what detail can be painted on this scale of figure.

Totally agree,Jason.
You know ,the old figures of Willie Shuren or C.Sttaden in 25-30mm?.
They are very lovely figures, well designed excellents poses and details and
they looks like as a 54mm of these years (70' Decade).
Yes,really,I do the same trataiment, when sculping larger figures than others
more smallers;Make a little person, thats looks like lives.
Definetly, is not a "minor art". ;)

Tomas,

Those are really beautiful!! I agree that I think that most people here would consider these smaller scale figures an art in both sculpting and painting. You dont happen to sell any any of your work do you? I'm looking for some good quality small scale figures during the crusades period. Keep up the terrific work and post more work.

Thanks Brad!.
Many years a go.., I had my own company..,Taxdir Miniatures.
Today,I'm a free lance sculptor(commission works) for many manufact
turers, working in all the scales and subgets.
Its possible, maybe,a new little reedition of my olds models in 54mm and
figures in 1/48 scale.Of course commissioned works are welcome!.
Thanks for your interest in my work.

THanks Gray,for your comments.
Where I can see,the Joe Videki painted little figures?.You know?.
I dont know why Raul dont make 20mm figures.When I know him,circa
year 88,he was a great fan of Fantasy figures, in those days Raul not yet
start to modelling but was a magnificent sketching.

In my humble opinion,

anyone who can paint a 1/72nd figure and give it a modicum of realism (no pun intended)...is an artist and it, is art.

Best Wishes
Steve
