Watched a French TV movie recently which was about French German and Scots soldiers out of the trenches, smoking and drinking with each other. Then the football came out and they had a game amongst themselves. Later the Germans were sent to another part of the trenches as were the Scots and some of the French were imprisoned. Cant for the life of me remember the films name but it was a very simple but moving film.
I believe this was repeated quite a few times over the war christmas's and was stopped by threats from on high.

The WWI flm "The Trench" on the Somme starring Daniel Craig portrays a soldier being given a football by an officer and trying to get it across No Man's land during the advance. I guess this has become almost like a cliche for Somme stories and films.

Just found the name of the movie I mentioned its " joyeux noel" quite good.
Have also found a huge amout of stuff on the Football Truce and have found seven regiments such as The Scots Guards London Irish 6th Camerons and 134 Saxon Regt.
Very interesting post Roger has started.
