I've just finished 'The Hell Riders'. Lt Dunn certainly had an interesting life after the Charge.

Mike

I am half way through that book now, very very good.
Colin, This is an excellent SBS and I have bookmarked the page, just in case I have a go (not very likely though).

Thanks
Bob

Starting to work on his arms. I still haven't settled on where his sword will be. Note the chain on the pickers acquired from Michaels' craft shop. Cheap at $5 for about a foot.

Hi Colin,
Just catching up on your work over the week end.
He's looking really fine. The pose is spot on for this difficult sword position (difficult enough in real life let alone in putty).
Interesting interactions on the braiding. You are right on the money with braiding throughout the jacket. There are so many references on the light cavalry uniforms at the charge it's hard not to get it right, especially in the larger scales where it is more evident.
Many thanks for the SBS on the Braiding....I am sure that it is not quite as easy as you make it look. Just one thing, you refer to clay softener, may I ask what you use? I have used lighter fuel and turpentine but she who one must be obey hates the pong that goes with it!!!!
All in all that jacket and accessories are a right show stopper and overall an amazing sculpt.

All the best,
Keith

Thanks Keith and all others who commented. Keith I use sculpey brand commercial softener. I am told that veg oil works but I didn't think so on my one attempt. The clay softener or dilutante is key to my sculpting as I do a lot of shaping with brushes. You need to soften the clay for that. Here is the product. Two types of package. Odourless but tastes very bitter.

Colin - still on track to make the Sunday meet.

Cheers

Thanks for the info' Colin.
I have a block of sculpey to give it a try and I am back in the UK next week and will pick up some softener then.
Just to hark back to that fine jacket for Alexander Dunn, if I may. I have in my GA the Mike French 200 mm Cardigan figure. I really rate Mike as one of the best sculptors of this fine detail, in comparing both jackets today I would say that your piece is the equal of Mike's. Great work.

Regards,
Keith

Wow. What a supreme compliment Keith. thanks.

Let me know if you have any issues locating the softener.

Cheers

Colin

Here's tonight"s status. Roughed in his reign hand. Still need to add the cap lines and his sleeve details but almost done. Sleeve wrinkles need work too.

Started his sword. Cut from plastic sheet, shaped with sand paper and a carbide scraper and added some magic sculpt to impress for the blood gutter on each side.

Completed 1822 Light Cavalry Officer's sabre from plastic card and Magic Sculpt. I built the hilt on a ball of uncooked sculpey and then removed it after the MS set. I didn't put a lot of work into the grip as it will be covered my Dunn's right hand.
