Luger Holster - help needed !!!!

Hi friends,
I am looking for your help! Do you know what holster is on osprey drawing below? If you have any pictures please post it. It looks similiar to Luger holster shoulder type, but on pictures in Google I found that it has no loops for fastening to the waistbelt. So maybe you know what it is. Thank you in advance.



I am asking because I started to sculpt Legion Condor Panzergruppe Drohne soldiers in 1/35 scale from the spanish civil war. First head is finished as below, sculpting swastika in this scale without magnifying goggles was a challenge uff. Hope you like it.

Well done with this sculpt. It may be easier to sculpt a square and cut out the negative spaces for the swastika.

Thank you Scotty, I made the square 0,8mm x 0,8 mm with putty and then press the negative spaces of swastika by needle. I tried to cut in 0,25mm thick plastic sheet (just the same way as you said) first, but the size 0,8 x 0,8 mm made this. unpossible for me. If you can do this I will buy it together with copyrights! The best will be photoetched or laser cut maybe, but I haven't got access to such techniques.

Have you identified the Luger itself? I don't see how you could identify the holster without first identifying the pistol. I don't have the Osprey book. If they identify the pistol model number and year, then great!

Could it be a 1935 Luger P08? Excerpts and beautiful photos from a gun auction site, http://www.phoenixinvestmentarms.com/HistoryBook/1090GdatePol.htm.

“1935 P08 military gun manufactured by Mauser for the German Police. BERLIN 1935 with the Police K proof. This piece is a 4 inch (100 mm) 9mm Parabellum. …To conceal production a series of alphabetical dates were assigned in addition to the code on the toggle S/42 (Mauser). …''G" dates are representative of the Luger produced in 1935. …There is a pistol, second magazine and a police holster with matching serial numbers on all three.”

Or maybe a Bergmann 1920-ish? You could post to www.forgottenweapons.com and maybe could get the gun identified. There is a short video on the Bergmann now, but you could also look for posts and photos.

Both of these are just guesses...

Hi Pawel!

I think this is a custom-made or prototype holster, as no Army-, Navy- or Air Force-issue open topped holster i mentioned for the Luger in any of my books. Walther supposedly had some for their smaller pistols as an undercover option, but they look to small to fit a Luger.
But a picture surfaced from the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz (No. 391/1288/22) of a similar styled holster carried by a German soldier from Russia in 1941, but this one seems to be black (or at least dark brown). The picture is a good one and is rather detailed!

Let me know if you can't find the picture! I have it in a book and can scan it for you!

THanks a lot Dan, but it isn't because the barrel is covered, if you type "luger shoulder holster" in Google you will see almost this holster, but there are no loops at back of the holster to fasten it to the belt, as in this drawing and photo I posted. I read that this shoulder holster was used sometimes by luftwaffe pilots or panzer crewmen.

I have found the description to this colour osprey plate and it is called as "improvised open top holster", so think it could be the shoulder version of holster converted to fasten to the belt. You can see the shoulder version here:

Good evening!

Here is a part of the picture I mentioned. The holster has the same angle as the one on your inspirational drawing, it covers more or less the same parts of the pistol as the one in the drawing and is quite similar in shape. It looks to be custom made, as I mentioned yesterday, as no open topped holster for the P-08 is mentioned in any literature as a standardized item.

The shoulder holster you mentioned in your previous post is a questionable piece, collectors don´t agree if it is a WW2 or post war piece, or if it is a holster made by American soldiers to carry their trophies! The same is said about holsters that are labeled as "Falschirmjäger holsters" which looks a bit like the one in your drawing. These are most likely post war holsters made in Bulgaria and Romania, exported in large quantities to the US in the 60´s or 70´s and stamped with "fake" manufacture markings and sold as WW2 produce.​
