My other hobby is woodturning, which I started 13 or so years ago. When I got into figure modeling earlier this year, I realized I could use my lathe to make some figure bases. So here are my first 3 attempts at making a base. Actually, my first was the base I made for my first figure, a B-17 Waist Gunner bust.

Obviously, I have started putting some groundwork on the one on the left. It is still WIP so there is more to be done. The two on the left were made from maple, while the one on the right is a mystery wood.

I plan to make more. I find that it is much quicker to turn a base than it is to complete a figure. So I will soon have a surplus of wooden bases. :)

What do you all think? Comments, criticism, questions are all welcome.

As I now have a wood lathe in my new workshop, I also make my own bases, but at the moment, Ive only got Yellow Pine to play with...!!
Its very therapeutic and Im impressed with your efforts,

Thanks for the comments.

Very nice.
Are you considering selling them?(y)

I would consider selling some. I'm not planning on making it a full-time production shop, but I wouldn't mind selling a few. If anyone is interested, let me know what dimensions you need and I'll see what turns up (pun intended, ha ha :)).

I know what you mean, Steve. There is something about making shavings ...
