Straight on with the next project, correct me if I am wrong but this fella translates as a Major of the Piedmonte Cavalry Regiment.

As usual he started life as a torso and legs from a 1/35th scale plastic figure. I added a Hornet head, some hands and a fir amount of Magicsculpt. The trouser stripes are post it note paper and the cross on the helmet is plasticard.

Just a wee bit of tidying up and he's ready for the cellulose grey primer.

Another interesting subject, Simon. I bet those knots on the sleeves were fun to do. Also love the idea of using post it note paper for the trouser seams, never would have occurred to me.
Keep up the good work

Merryweather, Rob and Melanie, thanks for looking in, no point in delaying got to get straight into the next piece. Yes an odd uniform, a rather short tunic but I do like the unusual subjects. As far as the knots are concerned, they are a pain, mine aren't perfect but I could be hear a month trying to get them right. It has occurred to me that i might be better just painting the detail.

Hi Simon,
nice to see that your comfort zone reaches my country too (even if pre-union, that is to say pre-1861)! And nice figure, as usual!
If you don't yet have one, I strongly recommend you to purchase a fiberglass pen that is veeery good to remove those tiny ... debris on the figure without significant effect on details.

Eppi, hi and yes I do have the fibre glass pen, I find it's great but as I add buttons etc with a dab of white glue they get rubbed off.

Interesting that the uniform is pre unification, my history knowledge is somewhat limited and I did wonder that there seemed to be two types of uniform in the images I have, now I know. Next time I'll do something a little more up to date, there is such a wide range of very nice uniforms so I will certainly be doing more in time.

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon,
All what concerns XIX century Is not my comfort zone, so what I think at first sight might be wrong. I'll ask about ...

Many thanks, for me it's more about the uniforms than the history behind it but I'd certainly be interested in that information.

Started his face and blocked in some colours on the uniform. I am seriously considering scraping off the sculpted Austrian knots and painting them in place, it'll either end up a major improvement or an absolute disaster, how sad this is me living on the edge now a days, I put it down to age.

For the face I screwed up a bit, I thought Italian a nice Mediterranean complexion would be good, then I looked up where Piedmonte actually is. So my base of Vallejo Light Brown and Vallejo Smoke was a little too dark in tone. Some glazing through Vallejo Brown Sand, Reaper Tanned Skin and Tanned Skin Highlight has reduced the Mediterranean complexion enough, though my pics probably aren't showing those too well.

Probably won't get much done tomorrow, it's my Granddaughter birthday today, she is an all grown up four years old and we're having a big family get together tomorrow to celebrate, that's going to be fun!

So, someone tells me that it's the uniform in use at the end of XIX century, beginning of XX, about 40 years after the birth of Kingdom of Italy.
Cheers!

Ah that makes sense, I was wondering why all the pre unification uniforms were so similar. Thank you for that, it is nice to know a little about what I am painting.

Good god, slow down man! I have spent most of the day masking some roundels on the inside of a 1/32 WWI aircraft and you've nearly done another figure.....

Great choice of subject, really liking this one.

Ha if only, my painting has improved since joining the Planet but even before I was never that quick. Many years ago I used to paint gaming mini's, hundreds of the damn things, a lot of people used to go in for speed painting. Unfortunately for me many of the speed painted figures were better than mine that took at least a week!

Hi Simon

Goodness have to keep a watch on you closer !

Good subject and nicely put together , nice helmet shaping

Personally in this scale I’d use paint to build up the arm knots ...

Looking forward to seeing more

.....after you’ve recovered from the party ( happy birthday to the little lady )
