Thanks for your comments. I started using the stippling technique a couple of years ago and I’ve found it takes a bit longer to execute, but not that much. This face took me two nights to paint , roughly 4-5 hours in total. I find the stippling itself to be quite easy to apply. The key is to keep your paint thin and the tip of your brush clean.
I’ve had almost 6 months off from painting due to a serious mojo deficiency, however it’s starting to return now. I want to finish this magnificent bust. I’m currently working on the tartan. I recently painted the two medals and ribbons and I’ve also added some oil washes to the face.

Bob, the gold braid was actually painted in various shades of brown and beige. I don’t use metallics on gold braid as it just doesn’t look right to me.
