Looking great! Nice set!Well, what can I say, but I dreaded my session at the bench this morning, not really knowing where to start.
In the end I decided to go back to the Vallejo flesh tones for young Jim.
I started with a mid flesh tone, painting out all the previous work, the started to build up highlights and add some shadows, while trying to keep it subtle. I'm not a 100% pleased with it, although I think it does look better.
I've also made a start on the shirt, using a mix of SC75 Brown Grey, AK Russian Blue Lights for the base coat.

Thanks Bran, I really appreciate your feedback. You bounced back very well Malc, well done, the general harmony of the vignette is excellent.
Thanks Nigel, my first attempt looked like he'd been on a sunbed, thus the girly look.Catching up here Malc, we've all been there (in my case too many times!). It looks great when you paint it but when you take it somewhere else it just doesn't look right. I did immediately think "hmmm, he looks like a girl" when I saw the first effort, I think the second version looks better to my eyes. Keep going, this will be well worth it when it's done. I love what you did with the map!
Thanks Simon, I pleased I was able to get it looking better 2nd time around. He's looking really rather Good Malc, the step down in colour has worked a treat. I think with this there is so much contrast between the two faces it's hard to find the balance. Still shaping up to be a great piece.
Cheers Simon
Thanks Nap, I'm going to work on the final highlight, when I have the hands and telescope in place.Hi Malc
Young Jim looks a lot better now so your definately getting there
The shirt colour is a nice contrast with the Captain....possibly push the highs more
Good update on this
Happy painting
