Here is my completed portrait of Lannes as he might have appeared just prior to his death from wounds suffered from a cannon shot at Essling in 1809. Lannes was one of the Emperor's favourites. He was referred to by Napoleon as a paladin and he was one of the few senior officers invited to address the Emperor with the familiar form of address.
The model is an original piece, about 1/6 scale sculpey firm. If you have followed my WIPs, you will know this is my second completed attempt. I had the misfortune of melting the first one in a disastrous attempt at paint removal. This one is painted entirely in oils. I tried to replicate the style of a Georgian portrait painter while working in 3D. For example the gold uniform lace and metallic awards are painted in the NMM manner often seen in portraits of Napoleonic officers. I think I am falling into a favourite subject, media and style. Lots of officers yet to do
