metallic Grey?

Hello all i am trying to achieve a Grey tone to my metals such as when you see iron it is not really shiny but Grey in tone. what I have done is to undercoat the figure's armour (lorica segmentata) with silver finish and ideally would like to glaze it with oils to to achieve a dull Grey battle worn look. Any suggestions on what oil colours i might use?

danilo cartacci uses smoke from tamiya. i know it's not an oil colour but maybe it helps.
