Thank you guys for all your suggestions. I can get Gunze and Testors here so I think I'll try them first.
At the moment I'm painting metal the way I do machine guns on my armour models, paint them dark grey and then drybrush with silver. It's not ideal but I've done the helm that way already and it looks ok. I did the sword by painting it a much lighter grey and heavily drybrushing it, using the scrubbing method.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help. I'd like to post some pics as soon as I figure out why the macro setting on the digital camera won't work.
