First little fellow - young "Vic" almost complete.
He is part of a 5 figure commission I am doing using Steve Warrilow's vignette.

What do you think of him?

Mike modestly asks, 'What do you think of him?'

Well I think that the worn, ragged uniform and equipment, along with the bruised, cut and scratched body go a long way in portraying the rugged Kiwi Soldier after weeks on campaign, in a style that only Mike's can. That's what I think.

Can't wait to see the others as he finishes them and the final vignette as a whole.

Beautiful work. Everything about him exudes ANZAC.
Looking forward to the rest.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

At first I thought you'd said "exudes Australian" ;)
Was wondering if you were trying to wind me up :)
Like saying to a Welshman, he's English or a Canadian he's a Yank!

He's very much a young Kiwi, though the ANZAC boundaries around nations were blurred more in those days.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you like him.

Stay safe,
Mike

Nicely painted.
Thank you Steve :)

Really nice job on a vignette that I want to purchase and to work on.
Just started Ometz, thanks & expect to see more of the guys over coming weeks.

Excellent work. Looking forward to seeing this diorama develop.
Cheers Huw
Appreciate comments Huw, fair bit to be done on this but it's a neat challenge.

I wonder is these will be available separately,
you have done a fantastic job on bringing out the detail. Love it
Maybe Steve will look at this Bob. I note his "Going up,the Line" vignette are available individually.
Drop him a note or see him at Telford, he's keen to support his customers

Really top painting, Mike. Amazing detail and textures as always.
Thanks Nick.
Try to push my personal learning with each of these guys.
Will be interested to see how next ones come out.

Stay safe,
Mike

WOW!!!!
This is amazing Mike.
The figure is superb but your rendition with detail work and paint is exceptional.
I cannot tell you how much I like this little fella.
Keith

Am grateful for your comments Keith.

Joe

You once again humble me Joe mate.
Trying to capture exactly the feel you describe with each of these chaps.
Next ones will be tougher as they are casualties which will really test me out.
Look forward to your feedback on them.

Hi Mike,
Your paint work certainly has brought them to life .The clean up has helped a lot.
Cheers Andy

Good to hear your comments Andy.
I'm a firm believer in making sure you "prepare the canvas well".
In my experience the sculptor's vision deserves to be unlocked from what ever the casting is & as a painter primarily, that's part of the role I play in the partnership to create our miniature art.
It's the challenge I enjoy :)

Make sense?

Mike

Great work Mike. I've been following your progress closely. Steve has a real feel for depicting these subjects with empathy. Your painting has brought out the best of his sculpting.

I'm hearing you Tony & agree with Steve's "soldier's feel" for his subjects.
Listening to Peter Fitzsimons "Gallipoli" as this project unfolds.
Harrowing story, which I'm also trying to stay true to with the this set.
After a fine balance between reality & art on this one.
Will welcome your ongoing feedback mate.

Stay safe,
Mike
