Guys,

This my Miniart 1/16 samurai bought from HHQ Mr. Low. The detail is not as crisp as resin or white metal one. It's good enough for me.

One thing amaze me that Miniart samurai arm with a sraight sword. A version quite similar as China Tang dynasty sword which derived from Han Dynasty sword.... It's a myth that some said Japanese ancestors actually comes from ancient China. So their cultural, cloth, weapon, armour (ancient version) look quite like ancient Chinese version.

First build-up I've seen! I've considered buying this kit, so now I have a much better idea about it. Other than the incorrect sword, it looks like a nice kit.

posture too wooden/ detail not bad/ sword looks awful, but as a model too practice painting, excellent value for money./badger

It might not be such a great kit, but you executed the painting quite well. Could you get some photos with some better lighting? It's a little hard to see how you did the fabric patterns, and I'd like to see a better-lit view of the face.

Regarding the equipment, I have only a superficial knowledge of the samurai, and Japanese history, but there was trade and cultural exchange between the two countries for centuries, with China as the stronger partner, till Japan industrialized and reversed the relationship. So it wouldn't surprise me to find Chinese influence in various aspects of culture, including arms and military organization.

Prost!

nicely done, but you would think the sculptor might have tried for an oriental face- he looks quite English (and middle-aged)to me!

I’m no expert but I had my doubts so, on a historical note, I Googled and found the following: “By about 400 b.c. Korean farmers migrated across the Sea of Japan (called the Eastern Sea by Koreans) to southern Japan. This was the beginning of farming villages in Japan and much of the modern Japanese population is descended from these immigrants. The Japanese and Korean people are really close cousins.”

The indigenous inhabitants of Japan were the Ainu.
