Hi Nap, many thanks. These busts are getting a bit catching, I’ll have to watch myself. As far as references go I’ve got the Osprey book on Bengal Cavalry but it doesn’t show much in colour of this particular period of the regiments uniform. I’ve done a bit of research on google and screenshot some pictures from there. I noticed this book appeared in the google searches but I don’t have a copy. If you’ve any good colour pics particularly for the head dress colouring/striping I’d be really interested. I’ve seen some versions that show pale blue bands, red pin striping and others that seem to be the mustard yellow or gold and black bands only.

Thanks for this Nap, really appreciated.

Nap, thanks for pointing to my modest painting of a Skinner's Horse figure (with legs left and right). Sounds like a compliment to me!
BTW the instruction sheet for Chota Sahib's 90mm commemorative Skinner's Horse figure has a detailled description of the pugree and lungi. And here some detail pics which might be of some help:

Now I'm of to smother the wild boar stew in some red wine!

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for this Pierre, 3 of the top 4 images I’d screen shot from my internet research but the others I must have missed. The figures with the pugree and lungi get fuzzy when you try and zoom in (or my eyes do) but don’t seem to show any pale blue bands unless they are thin stripes and faded. I found this one as well and this is what’s causing a little confusion.

I forgot to mention great job on your rendition of the Skinners officer and enjoy the stew.

In the drawing in Le Briquet Jean-Claude Colrat got it wrong, there is no blue in the pugree. There is a pugree in the National army Museum (the UK one) and it shows no blue, but black, gold and sections of interwoven black and gold.

If needed, I can scan the instruction sheet for the Chota Sahib figure.

The lungi with blue in it were only used by native officers.

Success!

Pierre, I PM’d you about the Chota Sahib instructions but you’ve beat me to it-this is excellent and will really help. Many thanks for taking the trouble to root this info out and share it. Merry Christmas.

Maybe it will sound like echo (from the above comments) but the work on the face is Amazing, those piercing eyes and the flesh tones are incerdible !!!
Congratulations!!

A bit more progress with this. I’ve made a start on the kurta and started blocking in some of the other main colours. For the kurta yellow I decided to try the colour mixes outlined in the thread attached by Nap covering a 75mm full figure of this regiment completed by fellow member akaryu. I’ve put the first highlights in. Paint is still wet in the photos but I’m going to leave it overnight and see how much darker it gets as it starts to dry. I can then revisit it if necessary or move onto the high highlights.

Hi Mr Cannonball

Very nice start on the uniform colour , really beginning to look the part .

Sure you know , the lacework has a distinctive red edging as well

Interested how your going to do the black facing colours

This and the 17th bust is really nice to follow

I worked on my one in mess kit yesterday ,so many variations on the "yellows" for sure in the references !...will post pics when I can inbetween family stuff!

Enjoy Boxing Day

Nap
