Hi Glen

Great to see you posting , like the subject and the painting, the horse in particular with nice detail work on the facings and edging

Do hope we can see more of your artwork

Happy benchtime

This is a question out of genuine curiosity, not a critique of the piece at all. I'm no expert in Napoleonics but I'm interested in swords from different periods. I notice the sabre has a straight rather than curved cavalry style blade. Was that standard for the Brits at that time? Was there variation I different patterns of cavalry sabre blades (curved, straight etc) during this period?

Another non expert on the issue of cavalry swords. Generally at this point and upto the end of the 19th C and I believe into the early part of the 20th. Heavy cavalry regts carried a straight bladed thrusting sword, where as light regts, Hussars, Lancers and the like carried a curved slashing sabre. This is true of the British Army and was much the same certainly in the Napoleonic era for other European armies to do the same. This is a generalisation and I dare say there are exceptions but on the whole this holds true.

Cheers Simon
