Model soldier's rifle banned from 'plane

Someone tried to take a painted model of a soldier through airport security, but they refused to allow his little resin 1/9th scale SA80 through, classifying it as a "firearm":

Confiscated as a threat, no.

Confiscated for bad paint, yes.

Long before 9/11, I used to run dive trips and encouraged carry-on only so you didn't have to spend a week with rental gear in case of the inevitable lost luggage. Problem was, everyone usually showed up with their dive knife, so I was always stuck with retrieving a box of assorted knives from the baggage claim.
