This figure represents a proud Mongol warrior from the year of 1223, a year which, for the Mongols of Genghis Khan detached from their Lords direct influence, marked the end of a triumphant period of invasions onto the southern steppes and deeper into the heartland of southern Russia, known to the Mongols as the ‘Western Lands’. Dressed against the severe climate, this figure wears layers of thick padded clothing covered with an animal skin coat padded and lined with fur, the type of fur depending on the wearers’ status. Fur lining or trim could very likely be anything from the exotic tiger or bear, to Yak, goat or even dog. (from RHM website)

I received this figure right before going on vacation and have been excited about the painting process coming soon. It was well packed in bubble wrap and the small parts were bagged seperetly to prevent loss.

The kit is comprised of 6 white resin parts.

The head was extremely hard to photograph and catch all the detail so I decided to crop the face out of Dave’s Box Art photo and include in the review. Exceptional detail!

The body and arms are exceptionally sculpted and there are 3 arms (one for the coat which hangs off the shoulder)

How Roy manages to sculpt the fine detail of the hand is beyond me but he has done an exceptional job.

A complete painting guide is also included along with History and references:
References

Osprey Elite 30. Attilla and the nomad hordes.
Osprey Elite 120. Mounted archers of the steppes.
Osprey Campaign 98. Kalka River 1223.

Roy also has posted on his website a gallery of Mongol photographs which is an excellent reference for this figure.

Conclusion
An excellent figure depicting a Mongol Warrior in a casual pose. Great detail and folds should make this figure a welcome addition to any Mongol collector. I am anxious to see the different versions that will appear at the many shows in the future.
