I've officially painted my first mounted piece now!

The horse was painted with oils...yes I said oils! It was an interesting exercise as I haven't touched any oil paints for several years now. It was a lot of fun actually! The blanket and leather goods were painted with acrylics mixed with some future to add a bit of shine to it, which is another first for me.

The rider was primed in black, yet another first...! The reason for priming him in black is all the different layers that are present on this figure, I wanted everything to be nice and dark so I wouldnt have the accidental gray primer glaring out from one of the deep folds/undercuts.

Once the rider and horse were finished they were attached and put on the base. The drum was painted and glued in place.

Now it was time to paint the flag! A very intimedating one to boot, by far the most complex thing I have ever done to date. Im pretty happy with how it turned out, learned a lot about how to go about painting free hand designs etc. It was a lot of fun, but glad that it's over...until the next time! The flag took 4 days to complete, the same as the horse and rider put together!

And finally the flag was attached to the rider and the reins finished up. The snow is a product by Nimix, some awesome stuff! Still a couple of real minor things to touch up on, but thats pretty much it. A very fun and rewarding project. It's a lot of fun to do 'your own countries' history for once! More to come I am sure!

Great job Anders!
I think the black primer you used adds to the effect of highlighting and shading.

congratulations!

Wow! Great work.
Your painting technique is perfect.
I think the feel of a material of the horse is very wonderful.
The blue of a figure is also vivid.
The design of the flag is amazing.

Hope this will be with you at Euro as it's a great piece and would love to see it "in the flesh"

Ray ;)

Fantastic sculpting and painting. I especially like the horse skin and the weathering. Makes me want to do sth for the same period.

Thanks Guys!! Was a challanging piece but a lot of fun.

I think the oils really helped out when painting the horse, though a whole new technique for me, it worked out pretty good.

Ray, yes I will have this at Euro along with a few other pieces. Looking forward to see you again!

Janne, it's ok to be biased :)

Anders, superb sculpting and painting, I really like the vibrant colours you chose, and that horse -Wow - stunning work.
Looking forward to seeing it at Euro.

Cheers Ken

Thanks guys!

Marc, haha!! I don't know how you guys paint anything of detail with oils, tooo slow!! But for horses...it works like a charm, even for an oil rookie like my self.

Anders,

Great to see this wonderful sculpture painted.
And you did an excellent job!

regards,
Marcel.
