Hi all,
Just finished this one - a WWII USAAF fighter pilot in 54mm, sculpted (superbly) by Mike Good and cast (flawlessly) by Kevin McLaughlin of Ultracast. I painted him up in the usual oils over acrylics:

As always, comments, critiques and advice always appreciated.
Cheers,

Thanks all for the kind comments. If WWII pilots are your thing, you must have a go at the Ultracast series - my last 4 projects, including my current one, have all been Mike Good's creations - I think I have a monkey on my back! :)

Again, thanks for looking,

Brian

Thanks, Brian - I just checked out Ultracast's site and that 54mm pilot series is fantastic. They've covered enough nationalities to keep everybody happy! I'll definitely be getting a few of those.

You've done a brilliant job on the USAAF pilot too - really well done

Cheers Nick - thanks for looking!

Very nicely done!
I probably need to get on to Ultracast and pick-up a few of those pilots - I have a couple Tamiya Spitfires and a couple of their Mustangs that will benifit from the addition of first class pilot figures.

Hey Brian,

Cool man! (y)

One small thing - not your "fault" though. When i sculpted these American pilots (I did a few of them) I was always going for the heavier olive drab trousers. Yet, Kevin painted them as khakis, every time! It is not a big issue since both types were worn, but the sculpting was meant to depict the heavier cloth of the wool trousers. To my eye they just do not look right painted khaki. The fabric is not "crinkly" enough to look like proper khakis. That is one of the reasons I went for the olive drab pants - the wrinkles are more subtle and minimalist, a look I prefer. ;)

Thanks for looking Mike - another winner from you as usual.

Thanks for the clarification on the trousers too - I guess I should have enquired about the colour before I started painting. I did try to give him an OD shirt and felt the khaki pants were a nice contrast, although in hindsight I could/should have reversed them. Oh well, on the next one...

Thanks again,

Brian
