After a few months in the "almost finished" shelf, I finally made an end to this most excellent mounted version of Napoleon I from the talented people at Castle Miniatures. It's a pretty sizeable piece at 90mm, but the detail was exquisite. I tried a few new (to me) techniques, most notably painting the texture of the horses hair by doing each hair individually, kind of like pointillism. That did not take as long as I thought it would, although I'm not sure you can see the result in these pictures. Trust me, those hairs are there!

That's one cracking piece of painting ...the horse works really well ...think you missed a hair in a nostril ...lol

Great technique on the horse

Thanks everyone, appreciate your feedback. You are right Nap, Castle miniatures had two versions of this figure, the one with a hare illustrated a story of how the hare had startled Napoleon's horse as he began his ill-fated 1812 campaign in Russia, thus presenting a "bad omen". This one came out soon after.

Fantastic paintwork on this superb dynamic figure. Great job indeed, just beatiful shading!

Cheers Borek :)
