Hi Guys ,
Some might know that myself and Jimbo started Campaign Miniatures last year (new release WIP!!!) so it was good to get an email from a good friend Andrew Janowski who has painted one asking if I would post on PF ......
No problem , I asked him for his honest thoughts as its great to get feedback so we can learn for the next release.(what he has said has now been addressed..thanks Andrew)
Here is his email as he sent it together with pictures
You asked me (at BC 2011) to have a look at the Natal Pioneer.
Firstly, I’ve nothing to add to Tommi Worton’s review, which can be found here:-
http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41904&highlight=natal+pioneer
Your request to me, if I remember correctly, was to comment on the fit of the arm/hand/pickaxe. What I found was as follows:-
If the arm is attached in accordance with the spigot/socket, and forced as far as possible, the fit of the pickaxe handle has a small mis-match with the part of the handle in the left hand (see Photo 1).
If one attempts to fit the handle in line with the section in the hand, the pickaxe is forced into a raised position above the shoulder (Photo 2). While this might appear to be nitpicking, the length of the pick-axe handle would highlight the mismatch if the bust was put together and the joints sealed with filler.
This very slight problem can be solved easily by cutting the hand from the arm (Photos 3 & 4),
followed by adjustment of the angle of the wrist to suit the line of the handle in the hand (Photo 5), resulting in a tight fit onto the shoulder (Photos 6 & 7). This also allowed me to paint the hand/pickaxe separately from the bust and then fit it on completion.
Personally, I would have preferred to have the hand and pickaxe handle cast as a separate unit, but no doubt such a preference has problems with casting.
Finally, in photos NP1 to NP4, you can have a giggle at my poor attempt to paint an African face (my first ever). The jacket is pretty well matt, and not as shiny as depicted by the lighting.
In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed working on this bust and hope that you find my comments helpful.
Cheers for now,
Andrew
If anyone wants more details about Campaign Miniatures then feel free to pm or e mail me to [email protected] .
Thanks again Andrew
