Need advice on holding figures !

I have both types. I find the second one handy if I have an item on a pin vice for painting, but is unstable to leave standing on its own (I actually have six of these).

I'm still getting used to it. I've used it more without the long handle, which screws into the base of the table.
Also, the machining is not consistent; that is, either the pins or the holes are inconsistent in their tolerances. Not every pin fits every hole, and some are loose enough that if you should tip the table, they can fall out.
I've found it handy, though, for older figures with bases attached, like the old Staddens that I like to paint.
Honestly, for a 75mm figure, I'd just put a pin in the feet and stick it to a piece of cork, or styrofoam, or a piece of pine, to hold it.

I have been using this vise from Hobby Linc (US Company) to hold a 1/10th scale bust for painting. The bust is on a brass rod for future base. They have multiple types of vises including some already shone in previous postings.

Honestly, I just pin my figures to a wood block. As in an offcut of 2×2.

All good useful ideas ......for me as I paint busts , generally I mount on the wood base , then cover in cling film and paper tape ....using the base as my handle

Metal or resin, long pins both legs. Drill suitable holes in block of wood, stick figure on.
