REFERENCE QUESTION: Is there a separate topic area for reference questions? If not, I would be happy to start one up.

I bought this Metal Modeles 54mm German Officer 1914 (http://www.metal-modeles.com/en/) and would like to have him in the Prussian uniform of 1914. I "think" he is wearing the 1910 tunic, but I'm not sure if he is an officer or NCO and if the box art is correct. I would like to know what materials were used on his back pack also. Any and all help welcomed!

Hi Tony. He is wearing as an German officer the Tunic M1910 or as a Private the Tunic M1907. The piping is always red. The uniform colour is green grey or field grey. It is a grey colour with green, many different green/grey colours are possible. The Kokarde colours on the right side are black, white, red and on the left side for Prussian black, white, black. The belt could be paint in silver or gold (see attached photo). And I think he is not an NCO but can´t see enough of his shoulder straps

Hi Tony!

After my knowledge there were two various cocardes on both sides:
Right: black-white-red (=German Reich)
Left: black-white (=Prussia).

Look at those pictures...:

Parade-Feldbinde was was made of black cloth with with woven silver threads...:

Buckle was silver with monogramm of Emperor Wilhelm II (who was King of Prussia)...:

The Uniform colour could be green-grey or field-grey as Ulrich said, for many officers wore uniforms by private made.

Cheers

Gentlemen, ich danke Ihnen sehr für die Informationen, ist das, was ich brauchte! (Gentlemen; thank you very much for the information, this is what I needed!) Bitte entschuldigen Sie meine offensichtliche schlechte Deutschkenntnisse. Es ist schon lange her, seit ich mit WBK 5 arbeitete in Stuttgart. Thanks again!

Bitte gern! Your German is better as my English...:)

Here is a pic of "Feldrock M 1907"...

...and one of the "Feldrock 1915"...:

All were made for officers of Gabardine fabric. Due to the buttons on the sleeve you can actually just paint the models 1907 or 1910 ...

Cheers

Hi Dan!

Thanks for sharing!

But the pictures shown by You, unfortunately, cannot stand as references to Tony's questions.

In the pictures above only skirts and shoulder boards of enlisted men are to be seen.

The other images show an officer's uniform, but not one of the infantry.
The Pickelhaube is one of the Kingdom of Württemberg, not Prussia, as You said..

Cheers

Man, you guys are awesome! The time you took to put the images together and the assorted information - damn generous, thank you. I found a used "Brassey's" book on WW1 German uniforms, and
bought it, then found another on just USA Doughboy uniforms and patches... PayPal can be dangerous.

Thanks again to all who replied;

Sorry, clicked too soon. Thanks for the link, and I will post information also. I am a bit of a reference geek.

Tony

Thanks for the links Roger. Sites of militaria-dealers are nearly always a very good source for ancient uniforms.

Cheers

Roger - Indeed thanks - I didn't have the Beck or Weitz web site.

Martin - You're far more of an expert on the uniforms than I. Sometimes I post the images more as color references for the painters. The two 1907 infantryman tunics are just for color, not as uniform references for officers. A lot of the schlutterklappen would, of course, never be worn into combat or at least not after 1914. Just thought they were fun and interesting. The Wurtemburg officer's uniform is of course an cavalryman's, but again, interesting and nice color for the painters. And, yes, I knew the pickel was from Wurtemburg.

There are so many Prussian uniforms depicted on figures. I'd prefer to see some of the other 'states' on some figures, wouldn't you?

All the best,
Dan

I agree!

Dan, my post was not meant as a criticism of you, this is a misunderstanding. To me it was all about Tony (the questioner) to point out that these templates can not be used for his figure.

I would also like to see a Saxonian, Bavarian, Württemberg, but the details of Tony's figure makes this impossible.

So that was meant. Please excuse if I've hurt you.

Best to You, Dan

Terrific reference boys! I found these very useful, especially; www.kaisersbunker.com I also was able to buy the Brassey's WW1 German Army book. I'm compiling images that I'll turn into a .PDF and post to share (not sell).
