To start I paint with oils. My problem is that when I paint belts scabbards or other leather items without much folds they look two dimensional. I paint highs and lows but still look "flat" especially compared to some of the stuff I see on this site. Any suggestions on how to make these items look more three dimensional? BTW i don't have this problem with clothing or other items with pronounced folds.

Hi,

maybe you could show us some pics of the rendition.
It could help us to try to correct your problem......

Highlight out to the edges. It should define it with out getting to complicated. Try to give it a trompe l'oiel kind of look.
