New Tommy's War releases available at Euro this weekend

Greetings from Euro Militaire!

I'm pleased to confirm that we have the two latest releases from Tommy's War, they are:

TW54005 - Private, 1st Battalion The Gordon Highlanders, Le Cateau 1914



TW54006 - Sergeant, 2nd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, Le Cateau 1914



Le Cateau is famous as a 'stopping action' following the initial battle at Mons, the British fell back and to get the army away the commander of II Corps famously said 'Gentlemen, we stand and fight'. The Gordons, already heavily engaged at Mons and the Suffolks are both famed for their stand, both suffering heavy losses and all being wiped-out as fighting units.

A memorial stands on the hill overlooking the village, now known as Suffolk Hill.

I especially like the fact that the range is concentrating on the mobile war period...by far the most interesting part of WWI from my perspective. Great figures form Le Cateau. Especially the running soldier! They both just look "right."

Normally, my tastes run to the horse-and-musket periods, but I must admit that these Tommy's War figures are really calling out to me! The sculpts are very nice, and Gunther's paintjobs only magnify the allure of the early war uniforms. Kudos also for the action poses (running officer, shooter, this running soldier) - very difficult to do, but extremely rewarding when achieved. Nicely balanced with the static poses of the other three - something for everyone! Can't wait for these to be available here in the Colonies. Best of luck going forward!

These are great. Had to look at the website and see the rest of them. Particularly like the Suffolk here. Also really like to see the opening stages of the war covered like this. May need to add a couple of these to the always growing pile.

These are really nice and original figures, but if they are supposed to be Regular Army soldiers of 1914, they should have moustaches.
It was King's Regulations , and there were very few exceptions to the rule.
Later in the war the rules were relaxed, but not with the BEF in 1914.

Thank you to everyone for your comments, certainly the feedback at Euro is a massive positive with queues to buy the figures for much of the day.

Tony, its interesting you should write that. I was watching QI last night and it was mentioned on there, I hadn't realised that myself, although many photographs of the time do actually show many soldiers without. I'll dig about a little and see what I can find. I am planning some spare heads, so perhaps I could release these with 'taches!

Hi Tony,
I think you are right with the regulation, but why are their so many pictures from the BEF without moustaches in 1914? If you work with figures,(sculpting or painting) you should work with good reference-material, like books, pictures etc. a King's regulation is not enough. When I see Darren's figures and my reference-material, I think the figures are without moustaches correct too.

It's a difficult one , and I agree that there are plenty of pics showing men without moustaches : but it's sometimes impossible to know which Battalion appears in the pic , and exactly when the pic was taken.
I get the feeling that genuine pics of the BEF Regulars ( that's the 1st and 2nd Battalions ) at the Front in August 1914 are rather rare. I merely pass the observation that they were supposed to wear moustaches ; and certainly, when I come across such pics of Regulars, the great maority of men seem to wear them... but there are always exceptions!
Anyway, great figures nonetheless.

Glad it is going well for you down there and sorry I cannot be with you guys.

This is not my scale but the detail and paintwork is quite incredible, I am sure the business will go from strength to strength with this continued quality.
