One abiding memory, when the show was in it's heyday, was going to lunch with Bill Horan, Keith Durham and Rick Scollins, and being confronted on the Cliff with a Group of Plains Indians Re -enactors doing what we were told was a Rain Dance!!! Comment from Bill was, "I've come 10,000miles here.....to see this???" If I can add my Thoughts to a new show, Why don't the organisers insist that EVERY Trader attending, has a Show Offer just to encourage the footfall instead of buying on-line, which, when you think about it has killed off most of the Shop trade. Ray

10,000 miles from America , where in America does Bill live :D

Well, even though I haven't been a fan of Euro for some time, I would like to take this opportunity to say a genuine Thank You to those who gave up their time to make the shows what they were.

I am thinking of people like Adrian and Malc - I know there are many more, this is not an exhaustive list.

It feels sad their efforts have been so disregarded by the show proprietors. Shame on them.

My endearing memory was of encountering a bunch in a pub including Bill Horan and Martin Livingstone (a prolific artist of the time - what happened to him?) and after a few beers Bill Horan got some figures out and thrust them into the hands of a bunch of half drunks! I was pretty nervous at the time I recall... such days will happen again but somewhere else.

Interesting reading chaps.I for one will miss Euro very much and mourn it's passing, even with all it's faults, including Folkstones deteriation from it's formal glory,to it's present state.I for one would sleep in a tent on the beach to attend Euro,as i went with a group of fantastic friends, and met many others from all over the planet all because of this hobby of ours.To say that's that, lets move on, is going against the grain for some folk and just can't be brushed aside as easy as that.
I recently lost something in my life, and to say that's that, next please, is an insult to the past and to the memories that will live with me forever. Some people will move on,but others, probably the old ones like me,will find it hard to do so.
Always remember that it was the biggest figure exhibition in the U.K. and still was when it closed down just recently.
Where to now? f**k knows, but i for one, want it in the U.K.

I have been following this for a while.

I have also been in touch with ian and others about this sad event and trying to resurect the show in whatever form possible.

What it quite clear is that euro and folkestone are inseperable. The venue might not be the best but also it is. It allows for all of europe to come together and from far afield as well. It allows us to be kids and have a laugh without being to expensive.

Lyn sangster and ray lamb didnt put it there just because it was next door and easy for them...it helped...but it was easy for europe to get to the uk and for us in the uk to get to also...again easier for some.

Euro was 2 things ...a great comp and 2 a fantastic trade event. It kick started the season and the hobby....lets face it who didnt save up for the derth of euro releases.

I doubt we will sort everything for a show in 2016...it really is a big task. One thing though its success will depend not only on the show but by figure modellers attending. If all we here is bla bla its a crap this an a crap that.. its finished to be honest.

Euro became a great weekend because of the event...we need to make a great event but we will need your support and that produces a great weekend and a truley awesome show.

Who wants it

I don't think that the family of the dead King would be too happy.Thats the point I was trying to make.

Brian.
My post was not related or in reply to yours.
All I was trying to say was that Euro is finished, Lets welcome and get behind its successor .
If my post touched on a tender spot it was unintentional and I apologise.

Well put Stuart.Especially the bit about, of figure modellers attending.Too many negatives on this thread for me.What happened to the guys with some positive ideas.Everytime there's a bit of bad news on this forum,it's like a pack of wolves going in for the kill.
With all that doom and gloom,it sends out a great message to our foreign friends.
Read the words of a seasoned trader, namely Stuart.
What really pisses me off is the fact that it didn't even warrant a paragraph to say it was finished. No statements from Geofrey Isley and co,which is a disgrace as far as i'm concerned. When the show was up and running, these guys were all mouth, now that is finished not a f*****g murmur.

No need for an apology Mick, as i tend to agree with you by getting behind it's successor, which may still be in the same venue. We'll wait and see mate

The reason you've not heard from Geoff Illsley is that he has been in poor health the last few weeks. So I'm sure otherwise we would have heard something from him.
I agree with you on the pack of wolves, it seems they couldn't wait to stab Euro in the back. Shame on them.

Malc

It's not about back-stabbing Malc. I'm as vexed as anyone to see the demise of Euro as it has been a weekend I've looked forward to every year for the best part of 20 years (although life has a few times intervened to prevent me from going). But it's no good burying our heads in the sand and pretending that all was well when quite clearly it wasn't, and hadn't been for some time. People are bound to have opinions, will want to share their thoughts on what's happened and on why it's happened (which is after all what forums are all about), and there's bound to be a post-mortem. We shouldn't be falling out among ourselves about this, because I'm sure that one thing we can all agree on is that Euro (for all its issues) being no more is a very sad loss to the hobby.
