i like the action in this figure! something different! and a really nice figure for a "first crusade" or "hastings" vignette! is this a figure for "Imperium"?
Hi, few historical points - the axe is not believed to be a popular weapon among the Normans (much more common among the Saxons) but the type likely used in warfare seems to have been larger than this, possibly with a haft about 90cm in length and with a broader head; I can't tell for sure but it looks like the axehead you've depicted might be eastern in design.
I think the riveting on the helmet straps should be done in pairs, with a single straight row around the bottom strap, unless you're following a specific reference?
Also, I think you may want to have a look at how he's holding the shield in this orientation. The way he's gripping the straps there is no way he could control the bottom edge from moving in and out (or rotating quite a bit). Someone who has the Osprey Elite title on the Normans might be able to provide more information but here's a page with a few images from the Bayeux Tapestry: http://www.angelfire.com/wy/svenskildbiter/armsandarmour/enarmes.html
