Not a figure but enough to inspire some figures soon I hope

The whole 'Star Wars' thing always left me a bit cold (I watched the original trilogy and enjoyed it when I was 14, but have never even seen what are now called episodes I - III) but I'm sure this will be insanely popular.

How is it figure news though?

Probably because companies who have 'form' for this kind of stuff (Knight Models springs to mind for one) could well be jumping on the bandwagon and bringing out a raft of new 'Star wars' figures.

I see, that makes sense. There is even more cool stuff that could come out soon if they do take the opportunity. Like this may be:

I think there are many of us that have a SW figure in the collection...but it is a case of each to their own...loved the first two from 1977 & 1980 but got fed up when a certain comic figure came about in Episode 1...however figure wise there is bound to be few newbies coming out...Luke as a master Jedi et al.

Now, now, Keith! There are many people out there who would think none of us have grown up. Can't we all just get along with each other? Fortunately I never intend to grow up!

Fortunately I grew up

Oh, I don't think liking "Star Wars" is an indication of immaturity or childishness. I'm in the same boat as Steve. The original movie is a retelling of the classic hero's tale that has surfaced so many times across so many cultures. And when it came out, it broke the mold for science fiction films. I saw it 10 times that summer, and that was before I could drive, my parents had to take me to the theater every time. At that time, it was a stand-alone, though Lucas' success ensured that the studio OK'd the sequels.

I haven't really followed along as Lucas produced the other movies, more because they're just not as compelling as the original. And so I don't buy into calling this one or that one "Episode whatever". But I can still enjoy "Star Wars", "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi", and the occasional kit of an X-wing.

I have sandtrooper armor which I built myself and weathered which I wear now and then for charity events as a 501st Legion member. The prequels and special editions can never hold a candle to the original trilogy (Han shot first!) in my opinion. I was 12 when A New Hope came out and was later fascinated with the behind the scene builds of all the spacecraft and sets. Think it was seeing all that groundbreaking movie magic that got me into kit building early on.

Well done being a 501st...a lot of work done for charity.

As for growing up...oh dear...nostalgia is a big part of enjoying life...like many here I still love the original three...we can talk about the merits of the prequels and their pitfalls but most of us have a place in our hearts for those films. They are pure entertainment based on the halcyon days of serials -Flash Gordon et al.

Certainly many of us have enjoyed them enough to make a figure or model from Star Wars...I bet should a figure of Michael Caine be released from Zulu it would be popular on here...what difference both from films that are entertaining.

I like Star Wars, but do not necessarily consider myself a Fan as such (not a re-enactor or obsessive, although those Stormtrooper uniforms do look inviting).
I don't think those who, "were not of a certain age" at the time Star Wars was released will understand the impact it had on those who were - (to me, similar to that which Zulu and Waterloo had - kick starting an interest in figures). None of these films can, in retrospect, be considered highly accuate, but they are bloody good entertainment to those in the appropriate frame of mind. Lord of the Rings, Ran, Kagemusha,Henry V, Bridge too Far,Kanal - all good inspiration for figure modelling - and we should remember, this is a figure modelling forum, not a military modelling forum.

That's the point - entertainment. I was 13 when Star Wars came out and I desperately wanted a decent figure of Darth Vader - remember the MPC kit that was little better than the Aurora Monsters ( there will be many who has nostalgic thoughts about Aurora), stiff as a board pose, inaccurate detailing and all...then the Screamin vinyl figure came out and lately Knight figures...I have the latter two the vinyl figure was made twenty or more years ago. The Knight figure awaits my attention. Vader was the biggest baddie in the galaxy.

As for Zulu and Waterloo I can completely understand those films getting one started in figure modelling...in fact that's a good thread...
